Well I had a lot of fun yesterday but I'm telling you the time went WAY to quickly. I did get to briefly chat with a few while I was sitting having lunch, but by the time I looked at all the pretty chickens, visited, took care of business, it was time to turn around and drive home. Thank goodness the weather was much prettier on my return trip.

Thank you to Jean for bringing the silver Ameraucana. She seems to be settling in nicely at my friends home. I'm hoping she continues laying this week so I can set those eggs!
CL, the 4 barred olive egger girls are eating and drinking like happy little chicks both at my place and at my friends' house. I'm going to go visit with them and see if I can get them to be a little more used to me so they don't freak every time I need to touch them. Poor girls.

I didn't get to visit with nearly enough folks yesterday - sometimes it wasn't much more than a nod and a "hey, how are you?". There are a few I suspected I knew but didn't get an opportunity to introduce myself. For those going to Stevenson I hope we get a chance to visit a little more. I'll be staying 2 nights so I'll have a bit more time there. Plus I've got a suite and will be bringing a few bottles of wine and snacks... Consider yourselves invited!

I am thinking that somewhere amongst all that great food yesterday I must have eaten something that my body is really not too fond of. See since right after lunch my lips have felt kind of tingley and burning. This morning still same thing plus a killer head ache and just feel like poo. I have no idea what what else it might be however I have never had any known food allergy issues.

Maybe it wasn't the food.maybe you's allergic to chickens !!

If I were to make a guess of all the food that was there, I'd guess shrimp.
Lots of people allergic to it, some do not have issues until later in life.
You will have to waite a few weeks & eat a shrimp again & see what happens.
It is scarey though, anyphalactic shock can happen.
Especially if you just had a mild reaction, the next time may be really bad.
I carry a fully loaded epi pen for IF I eat something bad...........but you have none.
May be better to see a doctor & get a skin test.

Yea I was approached by Dan J and another individual about the potluck, they were very supportive and thought it was an awesome idea, but, I have some things that I'm thinking about putting together and I will run it past everyone, I'm still waking up and don't have enough coffee in me to make an intelligent post. But, I will pose it to eveyone and get their opinion!!! But, I will tell you Terry and I had a great time!!! Terry felt very welcome and loves to pitch in and had a great time!! Thank you to eveyone for the wonderful food and conversation, I am sorry I wasn't able to meet everyone, Haller I missed you!! I saw you come in and then got busy.... wanted to sit and chat!! My husband is actually thinking of taking time off to come to Stevenson!!

now back to work~~~~~~~~~~~

Sad news the one chick that I managed to save decided to go jump in the water and drowned. It was my fault I should have taken the water out or not put so much in the container. And I should not have moved the eggs so the little chick who was having trouble walking could climb up the eggs and go diving in the water.

All the other eggs were shrink wrapped so bad that I could not save the 2 that were still alive. I am so glad that I got an incubator. Now I can save any eggs that a broody decides to quit on them.

On a plus side I forgot to mark my new eggs and my barred rock layed an egg in the broody box so now she is sitting on 9 eggs.
They are now marked.

Im sorry, you need to put little rocks or something in the water dish for chicks that just start out. I hope your broody keeps put. Good luck

Yeah, great setters and mothers, but no way they could handle the spring/summer hawk problem we have. We lost ALL our "natural chick" babies last year to hawks, and 14 (maybe more) ducklings. See, we have them free range - no "pens" or "runs".

I have been so lucky I havent lost any to birds of prey. Guess its my dog and all the other things I have running around my place..

Thanks Robin, but I have to regretfully decline. I have to see the doctor this week to schedule some shoulder surgery, followed by some months of p.t., so hard as it is, I'm not going to succumb to more chickens right now. I just want to get all healed up before taking on any more projects.

I still have some pullets to find homes for - Himself says he'll take them to the auction in Chehalis for me.

What kind of pullets? I was thinking I dont have any blue eggs anymore and I kind of miss them. Plus had a Farmers Market email me asking I brind my eggs and soap to them.

Thank you!!!!

You guys are truly an incredible group of people. There are no words to describe what I feel in my heart. The generosity of all of you has made my heart smile.

Thank you!

Quote: Thanks! I told you guys he's an orginisational freak!! He organizes everything!! It was funny cause we had just talked about using the picnic tables, and decided we couldn't and I went out side for something and when I got back everybody was moving stuff!! ??? LOL! Next thing I know Terry's doin this and doin that!! Glad he could help and I'm sure it made him feel good to help and feel like a part of the group. He was tired and we were tired, but, we got back around 930 last night and he got some sleep, I'm sure he's dragging, but, he will be able to sleep in tomorrow. Thanks CL!!
