We picked up 13 two day old Cream Legbar chicks at the airport last Wednesday. Our first batch of Swedish Flower Hens and Swedish Flower Hen x Ameraucana hatched last Friday. (Too many SFH cockerels. Two are in pens with Ameraucanas. I put some of the blue eggs in the incubator with the others.) So many cute babies! The second batch of SFH and SFH x Ameraucana are due for lockdown on Saturday. The third batch in the incubator has more of the above plus some Isbar eggs. DH has been busy building more pens for me under a 12 by 30 rv awning.

Lots of good looking chicks there!

Just back from going to Del's Farm Store and doing my runnin' around. The chicks have a new feeder and a much bigger water source. Dang it's hard walking away from those chicks there. They have black silkies (I hope that's the right term) not ready to increase the flock. 8 is enough but I did hear once it was "cheeper by the dozen" so I dunno.
I realized when I was out with the chick they are 3X the size when I bought them. They grow really fast. Yeah you all know this but its all new to me.

Some of the Legbar chicks: The two with the big white dots on their heads are the males.

Swedish Flower Hen chicks: The purple marker is for ID. They really are all the same size.

Some Swedish Flower Hen x Ameraucana chicks: Looks like maybe I got beards and muffs AND crests! The green color is also for ID.

would love to know how you had them flowen in? Id like to do that with some birds please do tell..

The chicks were shipped via Delta Air Cargo from Florida. They have special compartments for pets on the regular passenger planes. We picked them up at the Delta Cargo office which is near the intersection of Hwy 99 and 188th. It costs more but chicks arrive the same day. It's an excellent alternative for expensive chicks. I hear more and more bad stories about the USPS and chicks. We used to show dogs and have shipped them via Delta. They always take really good care of the pets.

So is RonB in surgery this morning ?

here's hoping he does well & heals up fast !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, This is Ron's wife, Diane. The surgery went well although the doctor said the tear was worse than first thought. It took about an hour and a half. We got home about 4:00 and he took a short nap - just had a little soup and toast so he could take a pain bill. He feels nauseous but not constant. He will be typing with one finger now so might not be on for a day or two but never fear, he'll be on here. He appreciates everyone's prayers and well wishes.

Glad Rons surgery went well. Rotor surgery right? Those are a witch.

AnniesMom, those are so darn cute! I did not know you could transport chickens by plane. I'd be a bit nervous over that. But AWESOME!
