Thanks everyone. I'm glad to be part of both threads ;) It's nice just to be around other 'chicken crazies' like me.

Ask how many of us crazies have house chickens....go ahead....ask.....

OK, house chickens just blows my mind. I put my hens in the bathtub when the inspector came by. But that was only for a short time.
I have 8 peeps in the brooder which just happens to be in my living room...but house chickens???

Most of the time one goat will be lonely. That often causes it to bleat (cry out) a lot or also many times become hard to contain as it will get out in an attempt to find a friend.
As far as bucks. I agree UNLESS you plan to breed OR have some neighbors you really don't like! They are pretty good revenge tools.
I would suggest wethers. They are just very easy going (no pms). Also (from my experience) no offense Zgoatlady but Nubians tend to be one of the more vocal (OK insert NOISY!) breeds!

That's good info. As I wouldn't want to annoy my neighbors (I actually like them a lot) which breed of goat would you recommend. Basically be pets and used for weed control, wandering the back yard. Are they difficult to keep within a fenced area. The yard is fully enclosed.

Had to see a Dr Klein. I suffer from Duprean's Disease. It's a contricture that draws the fingers down to the palm of the hand by growths in the facia of the palm. Instead of slicing and dicing the hand and all the complacations that follow not to mention lengthy rehab he uses a needle technich that actually pierces and breaks the constrictures free and straigtens the fingers.

Took about 1.5 hrs, fingers are free and functional again although there is still room for more improvement. We will see.

MikeyB - so sorry for that - is it constriction only or do you have pain with it too? Must make it hard to function. Do you have to have this procedure done periodically or is it a one time thing.? Hope recovery is swift.

My peeps are in the brooder in the back room. Big Chickens stay outside. No way DH would let me have them in the main living space. He could barely tolerate the cat box in the bathroom.

Maybe I should clarify this. My chicks are only 4 weeks old and it is still too cold for them to go out to the garage coop. And since I live alone, I only have justify my actions to myself. On the other hand, they are going outside just as soon as possible.
And to your DH, I'd agree with no cat box in the bathroom.

Hey guys I have a question. I got 2 EE chicks that were hatched on the 6th.. One is Bigger then the other. The bigger one feathered out first and is almost double the size of the other.... Does this mean I have a Roo? here are some pictures please tell me what you think.

Ouch! I had t Google it. I've seen it before, especially in some of my older relatives when I went to Europe to meet the family. I did not know the name for it. I had assumed it was related to arthritis, but that does not appear to be the case.

That needle procedure looks far less invasive than the hand surgery. I sure hope it works for you! Do you have to sleep with a hand splint? My mom was an O.T. and one of her areas of expertise was in hand and finger rehab, and she had all sorts of hand splints - some she made, others she adjusted. There was one that looked particularly painful, and Mom was always mad when she had a patient that was so neglected that they needed to use it - mostly people who have been in a coma for a very, very long time, curled up in fetal position for months. Their fingers had to be straightened a wee bit at a time, and there were little screws that had to be adjusted every few days, straightening the fingers a little bit at a time. Looked painful, like a torture rack for fingers. Mom would get so mad because with just a little therapy and flexing starting shortly after whatever the accident was that caused the coma, the patient could be spared a lot of pain and damage once they are out of the coma.
