Obvioulsy back from Portland.
Had to see a Dr Klein. I suffer from Duprean's Disease. It's a contricture that draws the fingers down to the palm of the hand by growths in the facia of the palm. Instead of slicing and dicing the hand and all the complacations that follow not to mention lengthy rehab he uses a needle technich that actually pierces and breaks the constrictures free and straigtens the fingers.

Took about 1.5 hrs, fingers are free and functional again although there is still room for more improvement. We will see.

Yowch, that doesn't sound fun. Hope it isn't something you have to do all the time.

The back yard is 1 acre and there is an old dble horse shed that I could convert. In fact I'm planning that conversion now. I really need 2 goats? Herd or no herd, dogs are pack animals and you don't need two dogs. I'm not arguing, I'm just wondering with my finger tips. I assume wethers are geldings? Two does that seems OK. What could I expect to spend on them and what would the feed cost be?

Well I guess I'll answer a lot for you. CR is right Nubian's can be noisy. I have to say ours are only noisy when its milking time. So you wont have to worry about that plus if you only have one goat the same thing. I do also have Togg and I have friends that have Alpines. I can pretty much find you what you want. The cost if its wethers they are cheap, what you want to feed them is alfalfa the first year than go to local or eastern Wa orchard hay. With you having the horse area (barn) that's great. I have hot wire around my place and I have a little over a 1 acre about 1 1/2 or so. You have to be careful there are plants that can kill them also. They have to have feet trimmed every 8 weeks or so. You can do it but I'm not sure if you could with your hands wouldn't want to hurt them.. They need Baking soda and minerals. Id say if you went with a smaller breed like CR was saying they might go for more now because you can have them in the city now. I can give you lots more info if you want just let me know.

Zgoatlady; I guess it will be 2 goats then. The nubians look really nice. Do you sell any? I'm just looking for info for now. Need to get my girls grown up and laying.

Most of the time one goat will be lonely. That often causes it to bleat (cry out) a lot or also many times become hard to contain as it will get out in an attempt to find a friend.
As far as bucks. I agree UNLESS you plan to breed OR have some neighbors you really don't like! They are pretty good revenge tools.
I would suggest wethers. They are just very easy going (no pms). Also (from my experience) no offense Zgoatlady but Nubian's tend to be one of the more vocal (OK insert NOISY!) breeds!

A friend from my Peace Corps days is going to take some of my chickens back to their place near Pullman this weekend. My ex is interested in some chickens, too. I'd like to keep the Brabanters. I could if Mr H would clean the coops for me, but he wants too much in exchange.

I'm so glad your feeling better. My son only has to clean his place and he's all moved in here. It was really nice last night the two boys ( men) were hanging out and having a good time. It was good to hear him laugh.

So far I am off to a decent start for the garage sale. While setting up a young couple came by and ask about my big saw blade/star. Then she said I will be right back for it. Yup ka-ching ! ! ! Plus an invite to another event. And the fun hasn't even begun.

zgoat... I have a question in regards to goats.... Are goats like cows in that they have to be breed in order to be in milk?
