This is our first - we are so very excited! And for a first freshener, she sure is being good. She let them nurse right away, and she even let me hold them. They cried, and she checked on them, but I think she knew I wasn't hurting them. She even let the "teenage" brat goat girl come and look, but she was very watchful.

I gave her some extra sweet feed, but she sure seems to have plenty of milk - must be the Nubian in her!

Do they need shots or anything?

Im not sure what you need to give for meat goats, not sure if you can give the same shots as dairy since they wont be around long.

Hey guys I have a quick question. I am planning on making a brooder as I am tired of chickens in my bathtub with all the dust its killing my allergies. I plan on doing an 4 ft x 8ft x 4ft out of plywood with a hinged lid that open on each side. It will be outside between my shed and my fence. MY question is should I raise it up off the ground and if so how high and how much support do you recommend. I was thinking doing on post every corner and then one in the middle of the 8 ft side. does this sound about right or every 2 feet would be better? Thanks for your help

They all have water and electricity :-


with automatic waterers inside, plus a wire bottom so there's little cleaning;we move the birds to a clean pen, then move the other pen to a new spot.


When the birds don't need heat, they can go to the grow-out pens - when the tops are removed there are hinged wire doors so the birds can enjoy the sunshine without escaping!.


All the automatic waterers are on a pipe base so spilled water (from the ducks) is removed via a hose running down the hill.

We have chickens and ducks so they had to be dual purpose.

thats exactly what I was thinking. I dont think I will be able to run water out to it but I am gonna run a extension cord for their heat lamp. Does it stay warm enough without a bottom? I love the idea of just moving them around and not having to clean their cages. I wanna use them for meaties as well and they get stinky fast. Thanks so much for the pictures. Can I ask were you got the automatic water? Or how you made it. I want to do one for my hen house. Thanks )

Oh, I so remember when I asked this question. Well after some research I chose a Brinsea...nice but I have had some problems. Well, I now have decided that is not big enough...and husband is in the process of building me a Freezor-bator (incubator made out of an old freezer). After that I am going to build a "hatching" incubator. Yes, I got the bug...bad.

If you end up selling your Brinsea, please let me know....I'll buy it from you. I need another one....already....I'm using a hovabator for Breda eggs because my Brinsea came broken in the mail and customer service doesn't seem to be their forte.

We had a problem with my DSiL's Brensea bator also. The cradle stopped working after a short break. DH is a very gifted fix it guy, and got it going again. But the bator wasn't even a year old. Everything I have read seems to suggest that this is a known problem, and that Brinsea is not known for their customer service.

It was scary to think about having to buy the cradle for incubator that I didn't even own. I would have, but it was going to make me very cranky. This is part of why I bought the bator from Heather that I did back in March.

I just read the last couple pages of this thread which is only a few hours worth of conversation, y'all talk so much! Just thought I'd mention that we're going to be at the Stevenson show this weekend. My sister will be showing a call and bantam sumatra or two. Hope to see everyone there. I look like I do in my profile pic. Since the thread moves so fast, message me if you want to meet at the show so we can figure something out.
