Yes, my son whom I never thought would take the imitative to do anything on his own was just amazing! Shasta had already chased the other dogs off, and when Alex came home, Shasta was nudging a dead hen with her nose and kept running back and forth from her to a Barnevelder that was in obvious shock. There was a big pile of barred rock feathers where the dogs had attacked a hen. Alex locked Shasta up, he told me that he thought Shasta had killed a Ben and asked me not to get upset. An hour before he came home, I had heard a vicious dog fight coming from our yard, but from where I was stuck, I could not see it. Alex was really concerned about Olivia and did not want her to come a cross the disturbing scene. The first dead hen he found was her favorite, Angel, the white EE who had hatched out our BCM's from CGG. He bagged up Angel and put her in the trash. Then he found the injured Barnie and put her in a crate in the house, but when he reached in to get her some food and water, she seizured and died, so he put her with the other dead hen. He then cleaned up the feathers from the missing Barred Rock, and told me that quite a few other hens and roosters were missing hunks of feathers. Olivia came home, and despite Alex's heroic efforts, she was extremely upset. But she had the sense to walk the fenceline because she was sure that Shasta was not guilty. She found the orchard gate in the way back of our property wide open. After the last freeze-thaw, the 2 gate panels no longer meet up. She pushed big rocks up against it. This gate goes out to a large forested greenbelt. While out there she saw one neighbors black Dod and another neighbors ridgeback and their Jack Russel prowling the fenceline. When she secured the gate, she told the neighbors. They called and felt terrible. Olivia was crying profusely and was very upset. They had no idea what was going on here either and have since been sending over delicious home-made dinners for our family. I got so done out Monday to properly repair the gate and block off all the areas where the local wildlife have been digging at our fenceline. Best of all, I see the invisible fence people out at both neighbors properties .Quote:
Ohmygosh I am so sorry. Makes me sick to hear this. It's my worst fear right now which is why my girls have been confined to their enclosed run for the past month. How are the kids taking it? Do you know which neighbor's dogs? Are they aware?
