So I just wanted to stop in really quick and give an update. I didnt get a chance to finish my brooder today

But tomorrow for sure it will basically be done. Its turning out great. Its 8ft long by 4 ft wide and 4 ft tall. I ended up deciding to go with a wooden bottom instead of chicken wire... With the brooder being so tall it would be really hard for me to clean so.... I figured I would add a hinged door so I could walk into it and cleaning when needed which I wouldnt be able to do if it was just chicken wire. It would also make it more solid so when we move it its less likely to twist or get out of shape which would loosen the screws. I am also gonna use this to house my turkeys. I will be sure to post pics once its all done.

CR I am sorry to hear about your bees. I hope you have better luck with them. Its never easy seeing all your hard work come to an end.

Well folks don't count on any more of my little jars of sticky gold (honey) for a while. Today I discovered that all of my hives are dead ! This really sucks. I enjoyed working with the bees so much! Just another attempt and failure in my life. How much more will there be.

I don't think it's a failure on your part. Bee hives all over the country have been dying at an alarming rate for the last 6 -7 years with no answers yet from the science community.

I guess I don't totally understand still.

I got the gun reference without any problems. But I was confused about the engine problem. I thought that I have heard my guys talking about Chevy 357 short block engines. I did a bit of research. I found that the 350 Chevy motor is one of the most common types Chevy engines, and very common in trucks. So a Chevy 350 motor that has had the cylinders bored out by 0.40 is referred to as a Chevy 357. So it seems that 357 motor, is a modified 350 motor. I can buy any number of 357 Chevy short block crate engines on e-bay. Here is one of the links that sort of explains this. http://forums.chevyhiperformance.com/70/6487614/general-chevy-discussion/355-vs-350/index.html

So if I am sadly mistaken feel free to let me know.

No, I just think the nomenclature got you. The 350 (cc cubic inch displacement; total of the 8 cyl) standard config is a bore of 4.001" with a stroke of 3.48". You can make minor changes with a different head set up or/with different pistons. I digress. Anyhoo, the "normal" reboring of a cyl is done by .010; .020; .030; .040 and is designated by motor heads as 10 over, 20 over etc. A 40 over rebore will increase the cc significantly. I would imagine the term 357 would be used to infer power. Not nec true. Depends on the power train and stroke. Oh well, I've bored (no pun intended) you long enough.

Please don't give up. After many years of beekeeping, Alex's teacher suffered the same last year, so no honey this. It happens to the best which includes you. That was an amazing pot of gold.

They are all so cute! I can't wait to pick up my Serama eggs this weekend and get them in the incubator! Right now I'm appreciating the 6 babies that are in the brooder though. I've been snuggling them as much as I can because tomorrow they go to live at my friends home. Her DH is chick sitting for the weekend while we're in Stevenson but she'll be taking over the duty when we get home. It's a good thing they're going to live at her house because I'm already getting very attached...

Thnaks guys....babies are so cute...then add that they are tiny little seramas just adds to the fun. fuzzy bottoms. thought I would share....baby #2 is sitting on what used to be a kitchen knife "holder". It was the kind that had an insert of all these little plastic things and you just pushed the knife in anywhere. Well, we pulled out this inset and made it into a candler. Husband did a good job on it. The hole you see is where I put the egg.

I know all the chemicals that people are using for insect and bug control have been mentioned as part of the problem. Sorry to hear that you lost all of them CR

CR. we've been tossing the idea of getting a bee hive here. We do not see very many bees here though. Think you had mentioned that the Kenyan top bar was not as good a producer as the standard square conventional houses are.
