It is probably splash. When you cross blue x blue, it doesn't breed true. You get 25% splash, 50% blue and 25% black. Just the way the Andalusion Blue gene works.

hmmm.... ok so her getting bigger will be interesting to see... guess i'll have to look up a Splash & see how they turn out. Either way, she's still my lil golfball & I wouldnt trade her for the world.. ;)

Oh, quick question -- Anyone know of a Vet in the Marysville area that removes Spurs. Being I have my son (who is City boy) and it looks like we have at least (2) Roo's... esp for the Rhode Island to have the spurs removed. I read it's easier to do when they are little -- I just didnt see anything about how old, they at least need to be for a Vet visit.

You don't need a vet to remove the spurs. You can do it yourself, very simply, if needed. Here's a good thread about it, with a good link to a youtube video. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/507381/removing-roooster-spurs-how-did-you-do-it

Returned home from Stevenson about noon yesterday. My friend and I had a wonderful weekend! It was nice to see the folks that we knew and recognized, I did meet and introduce myself to one or two more, and I'm sorry that if there were other BYC'ers I didn't recognize that I missed the opportunity to meet them.

We did have a few friends in for beverages and snacks on Friday, thank you to those who were able to visit for a few minutes. I know that traveling, unloading, cooping in, setting up can take a LOT out of folks. But it was nice just to have a few minutes to sit and shoot the breeze in person. Good to see CR and Diane, Jbear, CF, Pettec, Pips&Peeps, (we nodded in passing)

and more! I even met the adorable Quincy!

It was such a beautiful day on Saturday that we felt compelled to tear ourselves away from the barns for a few hours on Saturday and drove the short distance to Multnomah Falls. It was spectacular! I was so glad we were able to see it this time.
We also drove to Hood River, but only because we needed to shop for a container to bring my gf's purchase home in. She bought a HUGE black Cochin capon that did not sell at auction because he was being sold at a high price as a pet only. Giant, friendly boy who prefers people to other chickens, my friend had her heart stolen away by a boy who has limited purpose, but oh - you should see this guy. What a cutie. I guess we city girls are suckers for a pretty face.
She also got her DH's permission to buy a nice metal piece from CR's booth and has it hanging on her gate already. She is very pleased!

CF delivered my Castle Delight Serama eggs to me and since I was there and knew I'd still have room in the incubator, I decided to purchase 12 assorted color silkie eggs. Don't know what I'm going to do with them if they hatch, but I had a weak moment. (*See above remark about city girls.) So I'll be setting 26 eggs today.

Chicks that I hatched last week are still thriving at my friends' home (same friend who was with me this weekend.) We're hoping for a lot of girls out of the 6, but at this point I'm a little worried. Only one of the 5 wheaten Marans has developed the wispy tail feathers. It would be a drag if we only ended up with 1 girl out of 6, but I guess it's better than none! We'll see. I'm sure she'll be taking more photos of them this week.

All in all it was a lovely weekend and wonderful to see everyone who attended!

PS - Hope all goes well with you tomorrow Julie - and please don't feel the need to apologize for anything. I completely understand all you've been going through.

A couple of pics of the falls I shot with my camera phone. My girlfriend is deathly afraid of heights so I was very proud of her for going up the trail with me and actually crossing the pedestrian bridge going over the falls. It is a long way down and she was very brave. That bridge was built in 1914 - almost 100 years ago! Can you imagine?

Thanks SadieSue!
OH my Gosh!!! Those are wonderful pics!!! You said your friend took those right?? Or did you?? Those are gorgeous!!! I guess I'm gonna have to take some time when I'm going through the area again and stop and check it out!!

Good to see you too!! Went up to Seattle, and got the injection, the Dr was awesome and she did listen to me, and injected where I asked her to. She said it may take a few days to really kick in, but at this point, we are at about a 25 - 30 % reduction in pain!! Yee haw!! It's not perfect, but it is better!! Bad news, have to have at least a partial hip replacement! Yea, they can't go in a scrap the bone spur out as I had hoped!! Dang it Jim!! LOL!! So, I will be going back up for a Surgical consult, but, I will definitely be going out to do this, the VA is backed up over a year, for that procedure!!! But, hey, I should be good as new!!

Goats still prego!! But, we are lining up all the kid stuff we will need to take care of them when they come. Got to get a bigger table to put another bator on, and get that up too! Lots to do today!! Welcome to all the newbies! Glad everyone is ok, talk to you peeps later!!

I personally love the splash look myself. They are very pretty. However, most breeds don't have the splash variety as an accepted color in the standard yet, so that is good to know when showing. You can still show them, just can't win the top awards with them.

Ok... the Splash is rather pretty as well. Being a lil Bantam, she's gonna be Cuuuute if she is ;) I may or may not do her for show, I'm not sure. But I'm trying to work with all my "show" type babies to get them used to being handled. Tho my Sumatra isn't being a good sport about it. My one that passed was a little better with being handled than this one is. My lil chipmunk (Silver Old English Bantam) I think lost her ability to be a show bird =( the one d'Uccle had pecked her beak so bad that she has a indent line by her nose, it's healing up fairly well, but she may or may not always have it still there. Oh Well... she''ll just be my shoulder companion when I go out & play with them ;) Show wise tho -- I have the Blue Sumatra, Frizzle & I think the Black Old English Bantam. We some how wound up with 2 of a breed that we have no idea what they are & few days ago realized we weren't charged for them... hahaha Our only guess is the Black Old English Bantam, since they look the closest to those Chicks. Trying to figure out babies isnt easy for some of the breeds thats for sure... too many look similar as chicks.
