OMG you will be so in love !
BUT you need special coops ON WIRE and away from all rain to raise silkies.
They cannot deal with rain, they have no rain shedding capibilities...........get to work now !
They need wire floors & rain covered housing.
Best talk to a silky breeder, maybe Red Rooster can offer some help, but Sheryl Butler would be best.

today is a sad day. Hubby's bird dog managed to kill a few of my chickens and one of my brand new runner ducklings. I am still counting who I have left. I caught the bird dog after he pulled one of my young speckled sussex hens through the wire fencing and was in process of getting his fill. shooed dog away and checked out my baby... one leg was tore off and a wing. poor thing was still breathing so I had to put her out of her misery. Would not have been right to make her suffer like that. Dog got chained up and talked to hubby at work. He says dog is going. Sad but necessary. And since my friend's flock of birds is in with mine it makes it hard to see who all is there of mine. I am taking a break before going back out and seperating the 2 flocks so I can get an accurate head count. ugh!!!!!!!!

so sorry. WE have experience a similar event some 10 years ago. It was awful. My heart goes out to you.

Turkey poults in the battery brooder....they have a small hole for air & peeking out.
I removed the 3 feed/water troughs that normally hang on the sides.
This is a brooder like the ones you see at feed stores.

I duct tapped plastic over the windows to keep warmth in~~~~~~~

Then I opened the top~~~

They come running & jump in my hand !

4 young poults & 2 older poults, man they grow fast !

Then 2 mo old~~~

Rainy miserable muddy day !!!
Feels like October or November here !
Wind has been howling all day, white caps on the Willapa, and torrential rain that will soak you to your unders in minutes!

Then the T birds turn into this:

4 mo old

4 mo old Mr Peepers

6 mo old Mr Peepers !

he is so awesome ! he is Julie's man now ~~~~~~~~~~~

very cute.
