Hey everyone, I'm new, first post on the site!
I'm in Vancouver down by Portland.
I hope if there is anyone around me, they are willing to help me out.
I was raised on a farm and had chickens but never had my own and were responsible for them. So, I'm am a newb and proud of it!
I am currently trying to stabilize my homemade incubator (with no luck), and cant wait to get my eggs started! I am looking forward to a future filled with delicious fresh eggs!
Thanks everyone, have a great day!

Hi CL

Love your mailbox monument and your egg sign too!
Thanks !

Kinda goes with the Spiritwood farm...a bit creepy
big_smile.png

This name resulted from living in North Idaho not far from Spirit Lake.
Hence my AKC Kennel registered name was "Spiritwood Farm"
hence my Black Lab (s) and yeller ones too, were all named the kennel name, such as:
"Spiritwood Farm's B'Wichin Samantha"

So I kept the name when we moved here.

As someone who has full use of only one thumb, my sympathies go out to you!

Go ahead and add to your list the annoyance of people asking you, "Are you left handed or right handed?" Umm... I'm TWO HANDED! Try tying your shoes with one hand. Buttoning your pants? Two hands. Opening a bottle? Two hands (or one hand and two thighs plus some precision so you don't squeeze the bottle too hard and end up looking like you wet yourself)

Take care of yourself!

Thanks to all who responded to my Q?. The work on my coop has been going slow, mostly due to the weather but I lost a few days due to my table saw. Apparently I needed to test the sharpness of the blade with my thumb. It's official, it's sharp! Put a very nice kerf across my thumb diagonally.
Things I learned; do not stick thumb in saw blade. The emergency room is a lot further away then you thought. There will be a long wait after they get you in an examination room. They don't use stitches any more, they glue the skin. When ever you reach for something with the injured hand you will bump the injury. Life gets difficult when you can use only one thumb. I'm not quite as fast as I use to be and not as smart either.

to all the newbies, there is lots to learn, and there are quite a few people on here, that have EONS of chicken experience, so if you see peeps with lots of posts under their name, chances are they are our resident experts and I have learned a lot from them! I learn something everyday, not only about my chickens, but, from all the animals and people that are in my life!

Weather has been crappy, and cold, almost 30 something last night!!

had to set heat lamps up again, just to make sure everyone stayed warm. Hopefully going to make a road trip to get said turkeys and poults, and a few more Buckeyes!!
Ok, speaking of Buckeyes, these guys crack me up!! so, I was out trying to move my march 5th hatch chicks, which include 4 buckeye, and I had my tennis shoes on, all the buckeyes were trying to grab my shoelaces and started untying my shoes!! LOL!!
lau.gif

Everytime I took a step they would run up and grab a lace, then I would retie it and try to walk and they would run up and pull them loose again!! I finally had to pick them up and carry them outside so I could walk!!
On the goatie side of things, I had my friend who raises Boers come over and she said, ALL of my does are prego, and the ones that should kid mid May weren't bagging up yet, but, she said, sometimes they don't until the last min, so, we will see soon!

And last and certainly not least, here is a huge PET PEEVE of mine!! This same friend said that Saturday am at 530, some woman drove by her house and with a little kid screaming in the car yelling "no mama, no mama" dropped a dog off and drove off!! There are words I can not use on this forum to describe people like that!!

If you can't afford animals,....meaning (proper care, spaying neutering ect) then don't get them!!!!! Why do people have to make their problem someone elses??? It is very obvious this person, either had a female that they didn't alter and it had pups, or she got this pup from someone and couldn't take care of it!! And obviously they had had it long enough for the kid to get attached to it!!
rant.gif

There are plenty of places you can take them, not just the Humane society, especially over here!!

So my friend says, can you come over and tell me how old it is? She already has 6 dogs, that keep her place secure! And guess who ends up taking him????? ok do I have "sucker" written all over?? LOL!!!
Meet, Juan Pablo Gonzales Martinez Rojas!!!!! but, we call him Taco!!! LOL!! He is only,....maybe, 8 or 9 weeks! And so far, he is my shadow, and we are learning to be kind to chickens, ducks, and goats, ( he is as big as my friends goat kids) he was playing with them when I went to look at him!!! I think he is probably some kind of Chihuahua cross, possibly dachshund or maybe even Min Pin, who knows?? I knew my husband was gonna have my tail, so, I wrote on our white board, " I have three words to say" " Don't freak out! LOL
He has taken to kennel training and potty training nicely and as young as he is I am going to work hard at getting him chicken and goat friendly, he is curious, a little timid, and insecure, but, If you were thrown out of a car, you probably would be too!! Anyway, gotta call my vet and find out what the latest prices on vaccine's and deworming are!!!
Julie, so good to hear from you! Glad you and yours are doing well.

That is so funny about the Buckeyes untying your shoelaces! Do you suppose they only do it to people from Michigan?

Bless you for taking Taco, I hope he turns out to be a wonderful companion and protector and repays your act of kindness. By the way, there is a mobile vet in the Tri Cities area that has pretty reasonable prices...http://www.menksmobile.com/.

Well, my Rouen is DEFINITELY female, and I'm pretty sure LuckyDucky is as well. Quack quack! And the rouen is getting in some feathers that are very obvious female feathers. YAY! My husband built them an outdoor brooder and they are HAPPY DUCKS! And I'm happy too, because they can splash water to their hearts content and it gets absorbed into dirt!! And they can poop like crazy and then I can pick up the brooder and move it a couple feet down the yard for them to poop some more! And they can peck at grass and weeds and hunt bugs! Since it was rainy last night I'm hoping they find a few slugs. And with all the space there's room for a "kiddie pool" They are crazy about it. There's a lid for it too, but its off for the pic. I trust it enough to be cat proof (especially right outside our front door with a window overlooking) but definitely not coon proof, so they come inside at night.

Jules, you aren't bringing that pocket Taco with you tomorrow are ya ?

You gotta get one of those big purses to carry him around in ! With Rhinestones all over it !!!

I still think Luigi or Guido is a much better name !
