Oh hit submit too soon! I posted in incubating & hatching but no responses.. was hoping to have some information by preschool pick up time (1 hour!). My daughter's preschool is hatching ducklings. There's one right now that has zipped internally but not externally. There's basically 2 pips on opposite sides of the shell with an internal zip (I can see through the shell where the membrane was pecked away) in the middle. ACK! Is the little guy going to be able to get out without help? I'd be really tempted to take some tweezers and gently break away some shell just where he pecked through the membrane then put him back to finish himself. But would love any other opinions before I give the teacher my meddlesome opinion ;)

Could you have two different levels of roosting bars?
Yes two leavels will work. I have several different levels. some are only two feet off the ground but the nest boxes are on the other side of the coop

Don't put a two foot one under a three foot one! they'll get pooped on

I'm so sorry for your loss. This is what I'm absolutely afraid of. We have 2 stray cats that think they own the neighborhood. Unfortunately, one of my neighbors feeds them and that keeps them around, but much of the day they hang out on our front porch and back yard even though we have never fed or encouraged them to stay. Now that we have chicks, I run outside and shoo them away, but I'm pretty sure they're going to give us a lot of trouble when our chicks are old enough to go outside.

a good pellet gun shovel and a hushyomouth will take care of that problem.

Hey everyone, I'm new, first post on the site!
I'm in Vancouver down by Portland.
I hope if there is anyone around me, they are willing to help me out.
I was raised on a farm and had chickens but never had my own and were responsible for them. So, I'm am a newb and proud of it!
I am currently trying to stabilize my homemade incubator (with no luck), and cant wait to get my eggs started! I am looking forward to a future filled with delicious fresh eggs!
Thanks everyone, have a great day!

Welcome! I'm new too. You'll learn a lot on this site. Vancouver is absolutely beautiful. I go down for the Girlfriends Half Marathon in October. I love that city.
