YAWNS... OK guys so I been sittin in the bathroom on the floor with the turkeys for the last few hours. I straw feed the 2 turkeys every 20 mins until their crops were full. I spent the rest of the time trying to get them to eat and drink on their own and did a lot of online searches. I ended up coming across a bunch of articles saying to have chicks with them and the turkeys will copy the chicks. SO I went and got two of my Red Broiler chicks and put them in there. So far one of the turkeys is fallowing them around trying to eat off it like a baby bird. SO hopefully this will work. I am beat tho so I need to go to bed. Hopefully they will make it thru the night. My EE pullet who got attacked by the cockerel seems to be doing very well. She has a little spot where the feathers were torn out but she is eatting and drinking and with her buddy. As for the cockerel he is cleaned and in my fridge ready for stock tomorrow... its been a long day... I hope everyone had a great weekend... Goodnight all

 There's someone in Tacoma (don't know where you are) who sells pullets from their farm. They have a CL listing for a bunch of different breeds of different ages. Search the following phone number and you might be able to find some pullets of the same age as your girls and integrate them really easily. (253) 327-5039 is the listing phone number and all sorts of breeds pop up.

If Seattle Farm Supply doesn't end up having the ages I want on Saturday when I return the rooster I got from them, I'll be going to Tacoma for a few girls

Oh thanks!!!   We're in Auburn.  We can go either way (Seattle or Tacoma).  BTW... sorry you have to return your roo.  I hope he wasn't a favorite.  

I have some babies left for sale if interested.... 3.5 months / 2.5 months / 1.5 months and 2 week olds
but I'm sure you can find someone closer to you

Just wanted to say from Tacoma!
We just got our first set of chicks on Friday, so it's been an exciting weekend. My parents have had backyard chickens for about 10 years so I'm familiar, but this will be the first time for our family. We've got them living in the kitchen in a brooder box, behind a baby gate since I have a toddler and a dog who are fascinated. I also have 2 school age girls who are quite in love with them. I built a bigger composite bin yesterday to handle the poo, so I think we're all set!
We have a Silver laced Wynadotte, Red laced Wynadotte, Cuckoo Maran and an Ameracuana.

To you and any / all of the other new peeps. I think you will find that this VERY FAST moving thread contains a lot of helpful info. You will also find a great group of people here who tend to be very caring and willing to help others.

I am in the process of moving my friends 8 adult hens in with my flock of about 16 adults. She is moving to BC and can't take her girls. So she is giving me a killer deal on her coop, fencing, charger and other equipment. I just have to move it all. I need 8 more hens like a hole in the head but it is a package deal and she is thrilled that her hens are going to a great home. So I brought 3 of the girls over yesterday and plan to bring the others in in groups of 2 and 3 rather than dump 8 in at the same time. I put them in last night and cracked up when I saw that they had sorted themselves by color, yellow with yellow, black with black. I don't have any other speckled chickens so she was hanging out with my blue copper Marans of which I only have 1. This morning there is some hen fighting going on but my rooster is over the moon that he attracted 3 lovely girls to the flock. Bringing the second batch in on Thursday.

So with my 16 chickens, 8 new hens, 8-3 month olds and 6-5 day old chicks that brings me to 38 chickens? Yikes. I remember thinking 8 was a good size flock. Chicken math strikes again.

We burned litter today. Unfortunately, it got wet in the rain, so it was a little smokey. It doesn't smell too bad - it's burning pine chips. For the longest time I could smell the fire, but didn't realize what my husband was doing. We ate dinner in the backyard with the fire going. Seems fine. During dinner I asked him what he was burning and he told me. It didn't bother me at all, and didn't seem to faze my mom one bit even though the fire was about 20 feet from us.

Burning litter? Is this for sanitation? As a gardener I'm having to calm my breath and keep from screaming--AAAAARRRRRGH! I love poo! Why would anyone want to burn their poo????????
