Quote: I'd been keeping my mouth shut on this because I come here to enjoy talking about chickens and life, not get into arguments with folks I consider friends. I moved here from California because of my husband. I don't want to change this state, and to those who want us all to go back home, I'd gladly do so. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but when people make judgments about me because of the state I come from without knowing anything else about me, that gets really old.

Well just to get it all out there, here's me (guess I never really introduced myself):
Daughter of God, I call myself a Christian and I hope to live for Him every single day in everything I do.
Home schooler to my 3 kids because the public school system is a joke and a serious disservice to American children, forcing indoctrination of false values that have ruined our country.
Home birther; birth is a natural event, not an illness. I'm thankful for modern medicine in the case of emergencies, but birth is not one, MOST of the time.
Cloth diaperer; I will not contribute to landfills by throwing hundreds (or thousands) of pounds of plastic and human waste to leech into the ground and make us sick for years to come; also, they're freaking cute! Who would use sposies knowing how cute and easy cloth is? LOL
Aspiring backyard homesteader; slowly but surely, we'd love to be entirely self sufficient. Starting with chickens, moving on to a huge garden, perhaps some goats, rabbits, quail, etc down the road. Thankful for the internet and lots of fantastic books to keep me growing in knowledge on how to sustain our family!
We also eat according to the Paleo diet due to gluten, dairy, and soy intolerances in all 3 of our children and myself. We LOVE living here in WA where it's extremely easy to get a hold of organic produce, grass fed meat, and tons of gluten free, dairy free, soy free alternatives.

OK that's it. Hoping I'm among friends here, I've enjoyed all the info and resources so far and the company ain't half bad too

All very excellent qualities and asperations!! I am very proud of you for using the cloth diaper thing, I tried it when I was a stay at home mom, but, yea, guilty of the above, and not proud of it at all! Got divorced and had to go back to work, couldn't find a way to do the cloth thing with day care! Sorry to hear about all the allergies!! Wow! Anyway, thanks for introducing yourself and I for one am glad your here!!

I for one am glad that you have come to fit in! Please do no lump ALL of WA in the same boat. If you have never been to the East side, it is a whole different state! The attitude on the West side is really much different then here. And you have to understand, we don't take this attitude just because, we have SEEN things, experienced them, and to be honest with you, CA was like that when I got there! I didn't even want to go there, to be stationed there! I already posted that when I got down there in 84 there was a car with a bumper sticker that said "welcome to San Diego, now Leave!" At least we haven't done THAT yet!!!
Again, we are not picking on CA just because, and I know you are probably a very nice person! And I'm very glad you are not "WACKY" !! LOL!

But Jules, aren't people in WA lumping all of CA in the same boat? Sometimes it feels that way!

Robin, I think I've made my point pretty clear, It's not YOU, and I try not to judge anyone just because they are from CA, and frankly I knew when the subject came up that there were many people on here from there and that it might cause some friction. I was merely trying to help those who don't understand where the "attitude" was coming from. I hope that you have seen my past posts, that may shed light on that. I personally think your a great peep! I just know for myself why people feel the way they do. Frankly, I get sick and tired of people asking me if I get sick of the rain??? They lump all of WA together with Seattle!!

I think some do, I have been lucky enough to live in many places in this country so, I have experienced a lot of different attitudes from different places too. There has been things in the past that have caused this. You and many others are good peeps, I think anyone that met you would luv ya!!!

But then wouldn't Julie, Terry, Taco and all her critters be deaf also? I can't imagine putting hearing protection on all of her own before blasting the annoying neighbor!
Yea I know!! Still not sure how to handle it, been taking pics of the escaping goats and got pics yesterday of the fence they've been ruining!! I so want to call the cops!! But, Terry is like, "wait we still have stuff to throw in the garbage"!!! LOL cause we help pay for a big garbage can, we can get our own if we want, but, this guy has the genormous one! I told him hurry up and clean out the garage!!!

Celtic Rock!! LOVE IT!!!
I have gone to the PNW scottish games in enumclaw the last few years. Last year, I even made hubby and my youngest cargo style kilts to wear. They have a variety of music. I have found I liked the bands: Wicked Tinker, Tempest (I got to dance with the lead singer last year in tampico), and Brother.. I've listened to Flogging Molly and love it. Brother is from australia so they have an australian/celtic sound to them. Did you have any favorites? I am always looking for new stuff to listen too.

I love your introduction Pettec63. I am getting more into the self sustaining lifestyle. it is definately a new experience for me. at the moment I am over run with chicken eggs I am giving them away to family for free. even to my kiddo's dad lol. I did try the cloth diaper thing with my now 10 year old but for me It was a hassle. I had a ton of stress at the time. My dad passed away a month and half before, my mom was living with us and harping on all i was doing wrong. I honestly had severe post partem depression going on because of everything. It wasn't a good thing.

Right now I am on 1 1/4 acres of property and going to be moving to a place that is 3 city lots. I am going to have to thin my flock down. Luckily there aren't any city codes for that zoning limiting chickens that I have found out about. I even called andd asked the city. But it is smaller area and has a good sized garden set up already. but I have too many birds. LOL. we won't have pigs or cows there thank goodness.
So we will still be able to have what is in the garden here and even come work in it.
