I took Spanish (1 yr) in Jr. High. Didn't help.

Then I joined the army (ok I was 27) - they taught me Russian and Serbo-Croatian - Now I need spanish .. lol
Hey VF, so were you an Echo or a Golf? The Army taught me Czech. And two weeks after I started the language, the wall came down in Prague. Heh heh. I was a Golf. Spent my first tour in God-awful Ft. Drum. Miserable place!

Yeah I've actually been thinking about learning Spanish lately, and dragging my 9yo DD into it, too. Shelton has a huge population of Spanish-speaking immigrants.

You're even cooler than I already thought you were! I was an Arabic Linguist (Air Force) and went to DLI in Monterrey. Did you go there too??
WOW. A bunch of military linguists hanging out on BYC, who'da thunk? LOL

I was at DLI from 1989 - 1991 learning Czech and Slovak. Army.

Question: Next year I'm fairly certain I would like to acquire some different colors of EE/Ameraucana pullet chicks. How do I go about ordering/finding different color chicks? What is my type called? I really like SunBug4's EEs, and a few others. Would love white, blue, splash, whatever. I just think my girl here is kinda pretty, though boring

Gah! I SO want to get some more chickens. It's a horrible horrible sickness, that chicken math!! I am definitely getting Dawn's EE roo and possibly another suspected pullet that could be a roo, and I know I want chicks again. Wondering if I ought to wait until next year for chicks...either my own from our own broodies in the spring, or buy them. If you had to pick, would you let a broody raise some chicks or do you prefer to buy chicks from reliable sources? I don't know if I ever want the responsibility of hatching chicks or babysitting a broody.
I find it nerve wracking! I have hatched eggs with 2 broodys and now an incubator. My 11 year old loves it and the chicks are priceless. I end up with a lot of roosters that way and have had to put a chick down because its legs were deformed and it couldn't walk. I have the offspring of a pair that we hatched under a broody. The roosters name is Rupert and I have named his son Twopert but my daughter calls him Rupert the second. I almost feel like he is my grand child! The part I like about hatching chicks is that you can order some pretty amazing chicken eggs, rare breed and hatch the eggs. I have Marans from Kentucky and Bredas from California.

Oh! I am so glad I looked back through the posts. I have been and will be crazy busy and nearly missed out on this. What a cutie! My daughter hopes it's a girl.
cflaming!

Is VF building you a coop in Arizona :yiipchick  sounds like it by your weather forecast  :gig

:yuckyuck No kidding! Look outside...it's officially November again. :he

Well hopefully next weekend is nice like they say. My youngest DS is playing in another(and final) Lacrosse tournament.
Candled eggs today and I am down to 23 eggs from 28. 12 Silkies, 7 LF Favs, and 4 bantam Favs(these are Tamara's).
Hoping for a good hatch from these eggs. :fl
Especially the Silkies. I was looking at my one blue silkie and it is developing crossbeak. I am so bummed!
I was kind of hoping it was a boy and could use it for possible breeding.
If it doesn't get so bad that it can't eat or drink, I will probably keep it as a pet. We shall see.
I don't look forward to possibly having to cull it. :hit

I was so sorry to hear about your crossbeak boy. I hope he can still be kept as a pet.
I have a couple of blues from my Catdance hatch. If one turns out to be a boy you're welcome to have him as a breeder. One was from a blue/splash egg, the other from a paint egg.

We've got lots of folks here that have homebred EEs (and OEs too, if you want a different color egg) and due to the crosses some of them are quite cool. Chickielady had one pullet that turned out to be an EE, she had Black Copper Marans coloring on an Ameraucana body, really pretty. And some were splash and so on. She currently has an Orloff roo over some of her hens and coming out with wild colors. Could be fun!
