Here is the inside of my new coop! (that I made MYSELF without DH's help OR opinions!!) (He did carry over&hold up some plywood for me, though. 3/4 inch is HEAVY!!)

I didn't plan for a window, but I found an old window at the flea market and will install it soon. I haven't put in the automatic door yet, either. It will go on the right, under the ladder. The window will go above it. I found that cool ladder at the flea market too. It is so solid, I really don't want to cut it down to size! Next, I will make a board with cleats for the roost in the back.

The nest boxes will go behind me. For now I have the old 4x4 coop open for the mommas to use.

I put corrogated plastic on the roof, but it is so flimsy I don't like it. Before winter I will take it off and put down some plywood.

I will be lining the floor with plastic feed bags. I looked/asked around for some leftover vinyl flooring but everyone's being stingy. :(

Nice job on your coop!

Heya Everyone,
I know this is not chicken related but I just thought I'd ask....

I am trying to get my photography going again so I can make a little money to continue to repair house and home. If anyone with facebook could like my page and spread the word I would be very grateful!
Before the economy took a nose dive I was making enough to continue my remodeling/repairs on the house, now it looks like things are going back up so I'm trying to "advertise" my photography again.

I'm rebuilding my shop too at www.artfire.com/rainwolf as well but its slow going as I organize and test print before I list online.

Thanks everyone :D

Thank you! to those who have liked my page! every connection helps me get viewed by someone new.

I don't know if anyone else has answered this for you, since I'm several days behind. If redundant, ignore!

We have mostly Muscovies, and we sell the females for 15, males for 25-35, live. We also have other breeds but they don't sell quite as well. Are they wanted as "food", and is the client Asian? Our market is Asian and they "require" live birds, the bigger, the better, so older ducks are good. They also like the red caruncling on the face, so older drakes bring in more, since they have better caruncling.

We actually make some money on the ducks, not a lot, but enough that it pays for our own duck food so our own meat is free. If you don't like duck meat, it still pays for chicken feed!

I find them easier to keep than chickens, and even have a market for duck eggs. BUT, 'scovies don't lay all year like other breeds of ducks. We are hoping to sell around 100 ducks this year.

Kate!

Thanks. I'm assuming they are Asian. And I know they want live birds. Muscovies are the quiet birds yes?

That's what I did. used a 2X8. they are about 6 ft long. heres an idea for the cleats. You know how Lowe's and Home depot stack their lumber like 2x4's and 2x6's etc. there is a small piece of wood (cleat) that separates one layer boards from the next layer.. they usually fall on the floor then are swept up and thrown away. usually I can make two cleats out of one of these pieces. they work really well ! I had to show my first chickens how to walk up them. give them a little push! they got the hang of it . then any new chickens I get just learn from the older ones

Oh I think you are talking about what we call in the lumber mill biz 'stickers' and they are in between the lumber units to allow air to circulate, and yes they would work great.
Right on Robin

thats what I'm talking about. if you use them you should sand down the edges just a bit so theres no splinters

Well here is the skinny so far......
Not only is it still raining, but I had to call DH at work to let him know I got the backhoe stuck in possibly the only mud out in the front area
hide.gif
! So not only am I covered in nettle stings from head to toe ankle, but I wont be getting anything done on the turkey coop today
he.gif
!
Also I have a Buff O that has been trying for about a week or so to go broody on me (and she is mean as a some what broody) and now Fancy my Silver Laced Wyandott with feathered feet decided she is now broody
barnie.gif
. This is what I get for wishing for my first broody a while back, I got one and then some. So, even thought I have "enough" chickens, I am looking for hatching eggs from somone in my area (ish). I don't really mind what they are, but I am hoping to find some Black Copper Marans most of all. Other breeds that are on the top of my list are; (anything that will lay me DARK brown eggs or green/blue eggs)

*EE's
*Araucana
*Ameraucana
*Speckled Sussex
*Jersey Giant
*BLR Wyandotte
*Orpington

Now that is just a list of my top wants, but right now I will take anything pretty much just to give these ladys some chicks of their own!
