I'm in the process of trying to trap a bully tom. I'm trying to find a shelter... each one tells me to take it somewhere else. That thing has gotta go. He's a stray, and he's not fixed (judging from the other stray that recently had kittens). The tom has a huge territory in our neighborhood that he marks. It worries me because it comes to our back yard in the night - that's why he's going to be out of here as soon as I can catch him.
You need a Hav-A-Hart trap & a can of cat food, works great !
DH fixed ours that an egg customer ran over a few days ago.

I may be wrong, but I've always transported in cardboard boxes. I've known people who use dog and cat crates and even one who put a blanket down in her trunk and transported that way.
I know a few old chicken guys who zip tie bird's legs together & simply lay them down in the back of his car on blankets or feed sacks.
They trash around less this way, he explained.
Their feathers & especially their tails do not get ruined as badly as if they were running around inside a box or crate.
Sounded logical to me, still I use dog crates.
The zip-tie thing works with turkeys as well.

Kindle Fire? I want one :)

I don't have a daddy anymore.

Today has started out to be a pretty good day to be a beekeeper. First I went to remove a colony that had moved into a wood duck house. They were about 16' up a tree. I was able to loosen the box and slide a bee bag over the entire thing. Once I got it home I did the carve out and installed in a hive. I was able to make up 5 frames with what the bees had.
Then while I was putting the hive in the field I figured that I would check the 3 dead boxes. What a surprise to find that 2 of 3 have renters.

Cool, How much do you charge those renters? How many hives are you up to now?

I have a question:

My MIL wants to sell her peafowl pair and wonders how much she should ask for them. I know nothing about them, but I told her I'd try to find out. They are a pair and they hatched out chicks last year. They are the "regular" color that comes to mind when you think "peacock" (you know, the blueish green color). They are in Olympia. Anyone have any idea how much they are worth?
