So my GLW has two chicks that are 2 1/2 weeks old, my speckled sussex is sitting on four (down from 8) eggs that are do this Monday, and Now my Mottled Java has gone broody on me! she is sitting on a wood egg and a golf ball.

I'm running out of room to put everybody

I just built my 7th coop to put my sussex in with her new babies.

I need to build a second floor in the barn

anybody have six eggs they want to sell ?? I think they will hatch before a wood egg and a golf ball

I have started eggs in the incubator and another shipment due either Saturday or Monday. You're welcome to those. The best broody hatch I ever had was with eggs that were started in an incubator for a couple days. Kinda surprised me.

The necropsy lab in Wa. is in Puyallup. It is not very expensive to get a chicken necropsied. I googled it for info.

I am glad your chicken is doing better. I posted because I have doubts that she has Marek's. Sounds more like the "lethargic" chicken. I can't read every post on this thread, but it sounds like you don't have a lot of specific symptoms to go on. That makes it very difficult for you to treat. Without a vet visit with a lot of tests you are left with making decisions and supportive care.
If she is still not eating, the vet told me that Ensure was good for chickens. I had to use a syringe to get it into mine. If you started antibiotics I'd keep going with them, for at least a week, 2 is better, unless the antibiotics state to not use for longer than Xtime. I'd also keep her quarantined from the rest.

FYI- for everyone. The vet told me there is a vet in the crossroads area that has a reputation for being great with chickens. Off the top of my head I don't remember his/her name, but it wouldn't be hard to track it down.

His name is Dr. Bruce Singbeil(I think that's how it's spelled). He is great!
The problem with chickens is that by the time we decide to take them in they are hard to treat.
I have made it a point after losing a few because I waited too long to take them in, to take them in quick, after just day or two of my own treatment.
Then it gives him the best chance of treating them with success.
He will also give you a lot of info on how to prevent things and what not.
He is not astronomically expensive and he usually doesn't charge for a follow up visit if you have to take your pet back.
He will just charge for meds. I think he is very reasonable and fair with his pricing.
That's great to hear some first hand experience with him. The vet I was at Dr. Fuxa, in the Renton Highlands, was very positive about him.

Same boat. 46 here with 15, 13, 6 & 1. All were planned.

Yay! A couple of people making me feel like a young-un!

Not by much though.

BTW... those of you who dream of having natural twins, it's more likely to happen between the age of 35-40.

Mine are 10, 7 and 7. The twins were NOT planned.

That was a very surreal, whats-cha-talkin-about, can this really be happening, kinda moment. My husband thought it was funny. He wasn't going to have to be prego with 'em. Let me tell you - that was a very LONG 8 months!

It's funny because the way some of you talk, I would have never guessed that you were any older than myself.

For us, having kids when we were older actually keeps us young. We hang out with younger people because we choose to hang out with others who have kids closer to our children's age. Because of that, we're a lot more active than many of our friends who have adult children. I have had many people my own age ask me how on earth we do what we do with our kids.

Our kids have been very active in sports playing 2-3 seasons each year, I was a Camp Fire USA leader for 3 years (had to give it up because we were getting overwhelmed with both that and Cub Scouts), both my husband and I are Cub Scout leaders, my daughter is in Girl Scouts... we just go, go, go... a lot like younger parents do. It does get tiring. But it's rewarding, too. We get to watch our kids grow and change, but we also get to be part of other kid's lives and watch them grow and change as well.

For us, it is very important to raise active kids. It would be the easy way out to let our kids be raised by electronic media. We won't do that.
We want to raise healthy, happy, creative kids.

To create the my coop page, you create an article in the "Member Pages" tab of the learning center. Then you just copy the link over and put it in the Coop field in your profile.

I wonder if the link goes away after you already have a Member Page. It used to be there when I created mine... now the link to add a member page seems to be gone.

I built a large brooder in my shed yesterday! I have always looked at the area under my work bench as wasted space.
NOT ANYMORE! The older silkies are going out there today!
They are stinky and dusty and currently in my dining room!
But they are oh so cute!!
I can place a separatin screen in the middle when I want to put the younger ones out there.
That way they can see each other and get used to each other before I put then in their coop.
The Faverolles will probably stay in there until I know which ones I am keeping.

Very cool. It's amazing how quickly they get to stink when they're in the house. Our first brooder was in the family room. I was so ready for them to move when we moved them to the garage.
