Sorry, I've never met a large fowl RIR that I would consider "friendly"... :/
LOL its interesting how individual chickens in each breed can be "friendly" or "not friendly"

three years ago when I got chickens I got Two RIR the one (Gracie) is the most friendly girl out of ALL of my 31 chickens. when she went broody she let me pick her up and she let me pick up her day old babies anytime I wanted. My other broody girls won't let me do that. The OTHER RIR I got at the same time was the meanest girl out of my 31. I got rid of her three months ago. So Gracie will always have a home here!

OK so someone finally looked over all the symptoms of Princess and thought it could be Marek's? I looked in The Chicken Health Handbook and she does fit the symptoms of Neural Marek's (weight loss, labored breathing---ish, diarrhea, some droopiness). I can't find info on what percentage of affected birds live through Marek's :( I really hope that's not it! I will continue what we are doing until she takes a turn for the worse, but I think I'm going to quit with all the crazy special treatment. If she goes downhill quickly I might have to cull

She would be my first. I simply don't want to have to syringe her fluids for weeks only to have her die on me anyway. I hate this part of being a "farmer", it's so not fair! We didn't do anything wrong and she got sick from the stress the day we brought her home

I really hope not! Sadly, you might want to know, Reber didn't sell vacinated birds, so your birds from Reber would be susceptible. I'm really hoping, for your and your flock's sake that it isn't Mareks.

That's cool that you have a friendly one!

Rhodie has never been cuddly, even though she was my chick who came home from the feed store with really bad pasty butt. She almost died on me. I had to wash her little butt, and smash her food to dust for a week just to get her to eat. So, she was held a lot. She was more cuddly as a tiny chick. She always had a little attitude, but wasn't too bad until the dog attack.

Unfortunately, she's the one who ended up in my neighbor's dog's mouth.

She seems to spook a lot easier now. We have to make sure we get low to her level to pick her up now, and we didn't have to do that before.

BTW... our fence is repaired. Thank goodness! And, I think the neighbors are being more concientious about keeping their lab contained. I haven't seen it wandering around since the attack.

Free cockerels to any of you on here with more than 5 posts. Is this acceptable BYC behavior? I just can't give them away on craigslist due to cock fighting.

Sigh. I'm in the same boat. Poor Snowman just isn't wanted anywhere! Same for his hen mate. And now the two bantam Cochins.

Am i asking too much, do you think? I figured if Bob the Light Sussex roo was worth $20, the bantam Cochins were worth at least that and the Silkies were worth $10 more. Honestly, I'm not really sure anymore. What do you all think??
