Quote: To be a reportable disease, it has to be confirmed. If the bird dies, it needs to be necropsied by a diagnostic lab, contact your state vet, and some of their programs offer to cover necropsy for certain diseases they are particularly interested in....
The necropsy lab in Wa. is in Puyallup. It is not very expensive to get a chicken necropsied. I googled it for info.

I am glad your chicken is doing better. I posted because I have doubts that she has Marek's. Sounds more like the "lethargic" chicken. I can't read every post on this thread, but it sounds like you don't have a lot of specific symptoms to go on. That makes it very difficult for you to treat. Without a vet visit with a lot of tests you are left with making decisions and supportive care.
If she is still not eating, the vet told me that Ensure was good for chickens. I had to use a syringe to get it into mine. If you started antibiotics I'd keep going with them, for at least a week, 2 is better, unless the antibiotics state to not use for longer than Xtime. I'd also keep her quarantined from the rest.

FYI- for everyone. The vet told me there is a vet in the crossroads area that has a reputation for being great with chickens. Off the top of my head I don't remember his/her name, but it wouldn't be hard to track it down.

I can't "Multi" Quote apparently, don't know why. But I was gonna say I'm glad I only have ONE RIR now, even though I'm sure she'll probably be my best layer (why we got them in the first place!).
Fire, try this;

Is this an example of chicken math?

I am collecting Cochin bantams hens. If I want 1 new hen, I really have to get 2, because quarantine is lonely.

Please wish me craigslist luck. There's a lady in enumclaw that wants to trade a bantam for my Marans cockerel, so I will need to trade her heirloom seeds or buy her other bantam to be a friend.

I bought mine from Louise's Country Closet.

The artist is named Amanda & she will give ya a break if you get a bunch of them...like 10 or more.
These are the saddles I have scanned.

This is what a chicken saddle should be. I have felt that other saddles seemed sloppy, and rubbed on the tailfeathers. I don't feel like this si going to get caught on anything! I would love a copy or link, or whatnot.

I think that's chicken math for you!

From what I went through with Drama, I'd definitely bring in at least 2 at a time. That week my little Brahma had to be by my side all day long because of her leg injury made me realize why Reber recommended 4. Inexperienced me bought 3 (one per kid).

It's really difficult being a chicken's chick-mate for a week. I certainly wouldn't want to be a full-time chick-mate during a quarantine period. They need another chicken to snuggle with.

ETA: Oh, and from what I've read (I'm not experienced with this) it is supposed to be easier to introduce 2 or more to a flock than 1.

If I have 9 layers, how many eggs can I expect to get each day? 6? 7? 8 maybe? IDK what to expect but I'm excited! Maybe it has something to do with breed as well though? I have:
1 black Australorp
1 Welsummer
1 Maran/EE (possible OE)
2 buff Orpingtons
2 Easter Eggers
1 RIR
1 GLW

I'm thinking your gonna have a LOT of eggs! Can you sell from your home? (We can't. In city rules. Bleh! Although I have a friend who wants to pay my children a $2/doz delivery fee for walking eggs over to her.

I was just going to give extra eggs to her, but she insisted, which is nice.)
