It's funny because the way some of you talk, I would have never guessed that you were any older than myself.
LOL,
I"m not sure that is a compliment or not?

Well, I must admit I'm tired. It's 2:30. So far today I've:
Sorted, washed, folded, and put away 5 large loads of laundry
Washed out the litter box, swept the laundry room, cleaned the washer/dryer
Swept the kitchen floor (twice...kids are pigs)
Washed 11 pots, pans, and baking sheets
Loaded the dishwasher and ran it twice, emptied all and put away.
Cleaned kitchen appliances and counter tops
Checked forums, e-mail, FB, researched what the heck is still wrong with my chicken, etc...
Refilled waterers in the chicken run with vitamins/elecrolytes instead of meds
Brought the chickens a treat of applesauce with probiotics
Read 8 books to the kids
Decided to be a cool mom and let them watch Star Wars so I could get more done since I'm still way behind...

WHAT THE HECK!!? Every time I decide to name the birds, one goes and gets sick on me!! It's a conspiracy!!

So, this morning I went to open the coop, and found Princess Buttercup lagging behind and falling over on her head, then onto her side. I immediately picked her up and put her in a box in the house. Upon closer inspection, she has a runny nose and having a hard time breathing. I don't think there's enough time for me to go and get meds for her, and from what I've read, most people cull for respiratory infections. Well, I can't bring myself to cull, and she is already on her side with her feet splayed out and having difficulty breathing. I hate to see them suffer, but there's nothing I can do. I don't have a sharp enough axe! (ugh. Just the thought! And Princess Buttercup was my favorite name!!)

OMG I hope this respiratory infection isn't going to affect my whole flock!!

Oh no! Hoping all turns out well. If she is sick, hope it doesn't effect the rest of them.

Thinking good thoughts for you!

Thanks StarryEyzz! I'm hoping it's just Cocci. She's back to laying on her feet now. Just put some yogurt in there with her, hope she eats something. I did notice she ate some of the medicated starter I put in there, but I don't think she's drinking the sulmet water. I poked her beak into it a few times an hour or so ago. I am hoping it helps. She hasn't pooped since I put her in the box at about 9am this morning....

Myers road has always been bad. Our school bus use to have to take it, and there were many times we were late getting home because of it. On winter days, it was just plain scary. Even today, some of those back roads just make no sense how they twist and turn.

A few years back we looked at a house just off Myers road. I couldn't do it. I just couldn't imagine commuting out of that area again over the winter.
I do still use the Myers Rd turn if I am coming up the 410 hill but I will take the several side roads around it if I need to go into bonney lake. My GPS tries to make me turn left onto 410, not in my lifetime will I do that...that would mean crossing 2 busy lanes to get to the chicken lane & then try to murge in. Nope, not me.

None of our bigger vehicles could handle the winter snow, even a little bit (E250 heavy grooming van, F350 truck needs chains to get out, GMC Sanoma little truck). My hubby got a Kia Rio mannal for $500 fixer. He fixed it & put snow tires on, kind that doesn't need to be changed in Apr. He couldn't make the car slide even when he pulled into parkinglot & tried to make it slip & slide...it wouldn't. So he made it to work all during that snow & ice we had in Jan.

It's so hard to care for creatures when you have little ones!! What breed did she show?
Well she grew up with Aussies & had the one she grew up with till a few days after her 1st one was born. She had to put her long time friend to sleep as she had a huge tumor in her gut, felt like a baseball in her gut. Was very sad. Anyway, she was professional handling for friends, Samoyed & Newfi's mostly. She showed a German Shepherd a couple of times & showed our Cocker a few times. Back in 02' - 03' she was showing our Parson Russell Terrier. They now have a photo business. They do a lot of weddings, senior pictures etc. Their business is really taking off.

well off to P/T

Ron - if you are serious, then we should talk.

VelvettFog/Dave - You'll be so proud of John! He just came inside with a single tear on his face and a HUGE scrape on his knee from falling on the garden steps while digging in the mud. He told me, "I'm not crying and I'm really tough momma, but I tried what Mr. Dave told me to do and I spit on my knee and rubbed it in and then I told myself I'm OK!" but it still does hurt a little"

You might not love kids very much, but they sure love you!!!

Atta boy!

But don't you KNOW that kids are MUCH quieter and you can spend SO much less time with them if you simply turn on the TV, give each of them a handheld gaming device, and stuff them full of treats???

I know. Really. I could contain them in the house, let them grow up on violent video games, develop low self-esteem, not teach them any skills at all so they could become the next generation of teenagers who are bored, don't have a positive outlook on life, and think it's fun to wander through neighborhoods and break in to people's homes. No. I think not. I'll let them be happy, well-adjusted, outdoor, energetic little kids with a love for learning, even if they do get too noisy for some.

And, since they'll know how to care for chickens, they'll be able to apply those skills to other living beings.

Woo! Hoo! My Pullet Shut door is here!

And, it's much bigger than I thought it would be. I think my Light Brahma will be fine going in and out.
