I think the dog attack has left us feeling a little uneasy with the whole predator thing. Today, DH decided that we will dig the run down, lay in some chicken wire and encase the chicken wire with concrete. Then we'll fit it back in with dirt, and put whatever top layer we want. I'm considering large bark chips. I bought concret mix this evening. Getting the run complete will be a bit more work, but it will be nice knowing we did our best to keep our girls safe.
I'd wait on the predator proofing until you come here and see what VF did on our run; it's awesome and MUCH easier than what you just said. It's just a hardware cloth apron all the way around the run so that nothing can dig under. Super easy and since predators aren't smart, they don't think to back up 12" and dig under away from the run. Dummies ;)

We have talked about putting an apron on. I've designed and redesigned this poor run to death, making changes as we brought up different issues. The problem with using an apron is we'd have to make the run smaller, otherwise the wire sticking out would prevent us from being able to open our back gate, and we really want to keep the run as large as possible. As it is, our run will only be 44 sq. feet. Even though we still plan to let them free range when we're in the backyard with them, or use the chicken tractor on the grass when we're not, we want to have the permanent run to have plenty of room on those days it is too cold or windy for them to be in the tractor.

Keeping with the 10 sq. foot run space per bird, we decided a 44 sq. foot run would be perfect (which is good - as that is as big as we can fit). We wanted to make sure we had enough run space so, should we lose a bird, we could bring in 2 so any new bird would have a friend. 4 birds in a 44 sq. foot run should be OK, I hope.

I don't know, maybe my husband and I need to talk this thing to death some more. LOL!

Our original plan, before we almost lost a bird, was to just set the run on paver blocks.

Today was a good day. Took a little rustling uhm I mean road trip. Made it back across the border un-impeded and we now have 2 Blue Bantam Fav hens, 2 Black Bantam Fav hens and 1 Black Bantam Fav cock. And within a couple hours of getting them settled into their new home we had our first egg!
