I am really hoping I can get to the King Tut exhibit before it leaves. DD is home from Italy tomorrow

and I think she and I will just hop the bus to Seattle so we can get up there before it's gone. I LOVE taking the bus to Seattle. Only $6 round trip, I don't have to drive in Seattle traffic and pay for parking.

Yeah, only just turned two. Poor DH, it is his dog. Every time he gets a dog for him either something is wrong with it or it gets stolen. I guess he used to have a beautiful pit, during his first marriage and the pit would sleep under the crib of his/our oldest every night. DH said it was one of the two best dogs he ever had and someone stole it right out of their front yard one day. The second of his favorites was an American bull dog and when he left his x-wife, they had 10 cats, four dogs and two horses. She insisted that she get to keep all the animals and hid the dog from DH when he was leaving. Guess when she moved out two weeks after he did, she left all the animals there and he did not find out until a month or so later and all the neighbors had already gone and claimed/saved the poor things.

DH just wants a dog of his own to bond with like my Dane does with me (attached at the hip, really).

I just went out and candled my eggs under broodies this morning and had to take out 4 that were not even fertile

. Worse even, I think that almost all of them had an early death. It only looks like I will have maybe 4 or 5 hatch out of the 15 I bought! Dang it, I was really counting on these breeds to. Oh well I guess, there is nothing I can do about it now. My poor broodies are doing so good to. I have hardly seen them off of the eggs, they have not even pooped on the eggs (which some of my other broodies have and yet still had perfect hatches. Hopefully I get at least enough so that each of them have one or two. even if I have to steal a chick from on to give to the other.

Well must get ready, I have a small class play to attend for one of our DD's and then off to Snohomish, because every one in my family (other than DH) are enablers

. My Dad called me last night and told me he is doing a selective demo on a school over there. That I needed to come take a look and see if there is anything I want, like a bunch of those full sized white boards (those are going in the kids rooms) then he said that there are some cabinets I might like. I said what do I need those for? He told me that they are pretty good sized with screen/mesh on the front and that they would be good for chickens!

So I will be going up to take a look see.

Good morning, All! I thought I'd post a few pics of the chickens and coop. I can't believe how much they've all changed! We're also looking to re-home four cockerels: 2 bantam mottled cochins, one BLRW and one GLW. All are tame and raised by the kids. If you're in the area, they're free to a good PET home :)

Second batch of babies. They all stick together. Golden comets, speckled sussex (x 2) another light brahma and another EE.

It's fun to look back at all the pics that we took when they were really little. It's become a family thing...every night we all traipse out to the coop to bring in the chickens ...who are spoiled and get all the kitchen scraps then. If some body doesn't want to be found for awhile, (eh hem) they're usually out in a lawn chair in the coop having some "chicken time". :)
Great pics - good looking cockerels, I hope you find a home for them. It truly is a wonderfully relaxing activity to be out watching your chickens, isn't it?

I have a silly group of 4 pullets that have decided now, if the people door to the coop is not open, they can't get inside or don't want to. There is a ladder by the people door to the coop and they have been sleeping on that for the last few nights all of a sudden. Last night they slept ontop of the fence that is by the coop. Not quiet sure what their problem is but oh well.

Good Morning to every one on this horribly down pooring rainy day! Go Washington weather, yeah! (Not so much)

Sadly on the topic of pets, we will be putting down our 2 yr old English Mastiff, Barricade, soon. Have not quite settled on a date yet but it is coming. Poor baby is a product of a back yard breeder. I thought I had done good finding a breeder, but it turns out they were good at fooling me. He is half the size he should be, which in his case is good because he has such bad knee problems that any bigger would have really been bad for him.

2 years old? That is very sad. I'm so sorry. That was some pretty terrible breeding alright. Darn.

My juveniles are experiencing similar adjustment problems to their new dream home. They want to hide under the coop rather than go in and then if in, they wont go out. But they will get used to it and love it once they get the hang of it.

Oh, mine wanted to go out this morning - as fast as they could! It was a mad rush - "get me out-a here!" They free-ranged for a while, then, when it started to sprinkle a bit, all 3 gave the coop some stink eye and they walked into the tractor. They have never walked into their chicken tractor on their own before!

Thanks. Yeah I decided not to go to the auction, unless it's just for fun, to check things out; won't be risking bringing sick birds home. Rather safe than sorry. Whoever responded to my post about not wanting to pay a lot of money for a bird took it WAY out of context and kinda freaked out, don't know what their problem was. Why do people care what others do for crying out loud? Oh well, s/he said they won't be back until fall

I'm so sorry. It is very difficult to find a good dog breeder. A couple years back we looked at one. She was trying to sell from someone else's house. She had 3 puppies with her. They seemed to be OK, but I wouldn't buy without seeing the kennels. It was a puppy mill. I was horrified at the conditions. Most of the dogs had visible eye problems. I can't say for sure, but I wondered if there was a lot of inbreeding going on.
