He has two adds on CL today. I would like to make something perfectly clear !!!! I am in NO way bad mouthing this guy!!!! I don't even know him !!! You never know for sure what your buying when you buy chickens. I bought some pullets from TWO reputable people this year and had to put two birds down because they ended up crippled. they were ok when I bought them and I DON'T blame the sellers one bit!

No chicken will EVER take her place. it is day to day with her because she has arthritis real bad in her back Knees and her side vision is almost gone. I have to lift her in and out of the car but she still wants to go. It will break my heart when its time to say goodbye

I started all the birds on the bleach solution this morning. They have been on vitamins/electrolytes for a few days and were all acting perfectly healthy (as is Princess, yay!!) but they were all having watery poops like someone posted about a couple days ago. So weird! All poops seemed normal but had excess water all around them, and it's totally NOT hot here so that isn't the problem. Hopefully whatever is causing the water poo will be taken out by the bleach water. I had to figure out a different ratio than the 2c/gal solution (and of course, using only 2Tbsp of that per gallon in the waterer) because my only small container for the solution holds 24 ounces, LOL! So yeah, if you need to make the solution in 24oz bottle, add 3oz bleach for the solution.

2 Tbl per gallon may be to much...you may get away with 1 Tbl per gallon. ....Ask CL. She knows this as she uses it all the time. The 2 cups per gallon of water is a mixture you make and then add 1 Tbl of it to your drinking water. But ask CL.

Also, it has been posted before on here (I think IMP had it...maybe not)...but anyway, it showed different "healthy" poops. I watch poop and got a bit crazy worrying about it.

Let me see if I can find the web site....Nope sorry can't find it...maybe someone else will have it. It made me feel a lot better.

Sadly on the topic of pets, we will be putting down our 2 yr old English Mastiff, Barricade, soon. Have not quite settled on a date yet but it is coming. Poor baby is a product of a back yard breeder. I thought I had done good finding a breeder, but it turns out they were good at fooling me. He is half the size he should be, which in his case is good because he has such bad knee problems that any bigger would have really been bad for him.

Oh my goodness, how tragic!!!!!!!!! Lots of sadness with the furries!!! Mastiffs are one of my favorite breeds. Haven't had one yet as, although my property is 2.33acres, my house is not that big and I already have 2 dogs! So sorry you are going through this. I've let go of 2 old dogs within 8m of each other and it still gets to me, even though its been 5 yrs. I got tattoos of their actual paw prints we made from the clay we put their tootsie impressions in!

Cloverleaf: how are you doing? Feeling okay? HOpe things are going well. I am not being able to get on as often as I used to so I am not sure if you have posted and I am just not up to date. I apologize if I am being too nosey.

Anytime you want to have a few more skunks you just let me know. I can probably accomdate you. Last year, DH sat on top of an old utility wagon/trailer that my mom has. He shot 11 skunks as they came out from under an old shed in the back of the property.

Oh, he stunk so bad...I made him strip outside. He did not get a direct hit...but he was in the atmosphere of them...oh holy he stunk.

Just spent some time outside with the birds. They are so happy when they free range. Makes me furious to think of the awful conditions of mainstream chicken houses I am glad there is a currently a bill awaiting approval for changes to be made in chicken houses nationwide I saw the hutch. It's great! But I think if I get something I want it to have storage underneath. I'm seriously considering an armoire type thing where I can use the TV cutout portion of it for some chicks; add hardware cloth across the front and hinge the shelf above, sounds like it would be great and have storage above and below? We'll see what I come up with. Whatever it is, I'd like it to be inside the current run for now, so it can't be huge.

Has anyone bought chickens from "The Original Chicken Man" Donald Weeks in Orting? He has some I might consider but he also seems to have hundreds of birds...don't know how anyone could keep a healthy/clean flock with so many available. WDYT? Should I go check it out or search for small flock families to buy from?

I have -- be careful. You will need to quarantine for at least 30 days. At least.

Cool, glad to know it looks good Can you explain to me what "growing out" means? I've seen people reference their growout pens before and don't really know what it means.

A place to let your younger birds grow-out until they are big enough to handle being in your main flock. (Or as I call it .. jail and Gen-Pop)
