Mind Blower:

The Barbecue Special from McMurray included a LF Partridge Cochin Cockerel...and we all know how massive those birds are.....and they were ALL THE SAME SIZE & AGE when they were hatched & delivered...so look now !

See his little face there ?
HE IS DWARFED by the cornballs !

he is between the 2 cornballs on the upper left~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A tiny brown dot in a sea of PINK and WHITE..............

There is also a OE in there, white & brown/black markings that is so pretty.

ChickieLady: I don't think I could eat any that looked different. As long as they all look alike, have no possibility of becoming loved over the others, and cannot be named because of the sheer numbers of the same type of birds...then I'm good.

Medicated Chick feed mini tutorial:

There has been so many folks asking/PMing me about this issue.

The medication IN "Medicated Chick Feed" is Amprolium.

It is an anti-cocal.
The reason for it IN the chick feed is due to the fact that babies have no immunity towards coccidiosis...and there is somewhere between 23 and 27 varieties of this nasty parasite.
The bird's immunal system needs time to "blueprint" the "bug" and then it can deal with it, but new chicks have no such immunity.

Thus Amprolium is added to "MEDICATED" chick feed.

Amprolium comes in other forms & name brands, such as "Corid"

Broody hens hatching chicks CAN eat medicated chick feed just fine.
But please do not give your birds BOTH CORID in the water AND Medicated feed or they will be "OVER MEDICATED" and chick deaths can happen.

The Cocci parasites burrow into the gut lining & usually display a BLOODY poo...not reddish, but BLOODY as if ya cut yourself.
There are ALOT of various types of cocci parasites, and some can simply mamed the bird's intestines without showing bloody po
Started birds going OFF Medicated chick starter and going onto grower without "medication" should be provided Corid in their water/ on 1 week, and off a week until they are a few months old, that way their immunal systems can "blueprint" the cocci present, and deal with it.
After that, the cocci bugs cannot harm the bird.
BUT if you ship birds e;sewhere, or transport them elsewhere, there maybe a different Cocci bug there, and the issue goes...always treat for cocci to newly "imported" birds.

The cocci I have here may be different from the cocci ......say...RonB has in Woodinville.

Get it?

NEVER give your birds BOTH Corid AND Medicated chick feed.

But DO give them one or the other.I
have brooded chicks. keets & poults on Turkey starter, which in UN medicated...and so I add Corid to their water......OK ?

The medication in Medicated Chick Feed is Amprolium.............which is what Corid is.
Birds get 1 or the other, not both Amprolium In the feed AND the water.

**** Oh, and P.S. We all have cocci parasites, it is in the very dirt here , everywhere and does not harm humans.
Cats carry a similar parasite.

Boy, I missed a few million posts while my wireless mouse decided to die. That ended computer time till I could get out and pick up a regular mouse. today EEk, it works but, I hate the ball and chain (cord )_ feeling. Now I know why dogs chained up are so frustrated, you can't reach anything..

Perusing the posts I did notice Cloverleaf's Freudian slip ""sweaty meats," alluding of course to "Magic Mike" when she meant to say "sweet meats" instead. The women here all understand and know what that's like. Gosh those guys sure could dance.
I hate to ask, but you did put Fresh batteries in the mouse?

THANK YOU!!! Question: Can I simply put the birds back on medicated starter/grower until they lay and forgo the Corid in the water entirely? Or should they have a good strong dose of Corid one day, then go to medicated feed?

Also may want to mention: (can't remember the name) there is another "additive" that many use believing it helps with Cocci - I totally disagree. Corid is the one to use if you need to. I know that CL will know the additive i am referring to - if not I will go and find it.
