I don't know that we're there yet. There are more soft yellow poops than normal and I have 2 new girls. Didn't know if I should use Corid for 5 days for everyone or just use medicated feed. I have both. I should probably have been using it all along, but I didn't know not to let my tiny chicks into the yard so early. I had them outside in a small run at only 3 weeks old, and this was for several hours a day. Then I took them off medicated at 8 weeks and switched to Scratch and Peck Grower feed. That's when the growth tapered off and the girls didn't grow as fast as other birds. I know they need more protein so I put them back on starter/grower and I'm giving them scrambled eggs every other day, but I don't know if I should restart medicated, which I did buy today just in case. Thanks!
You ALWAYS use one or the other.
NEVER use medicated feed AND Amprolium in the water at the same time, you will over medicate.

Birds started, should be on a grower feed for more protein.......I'd say birds at 1 mo or 2 of age, go on grower, basic or flockraiser with 20-27% protein, which is unmedicated with amprolium, so I add the podwer to their water at rounded 1/4 tsp per gallon, in a empty milk jug, add a bit of warm water to dissolve, then fill it up & add 1 T of the solution.
If you add vitamins, I do it at the same time as the corid powder so the warm water will dissolve the vitamin powder.
hard to dissolve in cold water.
I am not familiar with the dosage for the Corid liquid, you have to ask CR that.

Often times, especially with a large boned breed like Buckeyes or jersey Giants, I use NO MEDICATED chick feed.
I feed them basic poultry with 27% protein, and ward off cocci with Amprolium in the water with Corid Powder.
Especially if I am hatching just a handful of chicks.
Don't want a bag of chick feed laying around for ever~
In spring when I am hatching 100s of babies, I do buy Medicated chick starter.

Ha Ha, my DH makes little jokes like that too. But he knows I hate being called a girl in the aspect of meaning weaker than men. You can be a girly girl and yet still be as tuff as nails. I like to go tanning, dress nice (after my chicken chores are done), get my nails done every few months (only the tuff colored fake ones so they don't break when I am working) and so on, but I have worked my butt of to never be seriously be called a girl. I have worked for 3 different construction companies. I have done flagging, but I hate standing there while everyone elts is working. Mostly I put in pipe for storm drains and septic lines as well as running heavy equipment mudding catch basins, shoveling and everything that the men on the crews do. Yes I know I do some of it a bit slower than the men but trust me I can keep up. But you should see some of the looks I have gotten showing up on a job site, hair colored, nails done, make up on and only about 110#, then the looks and attitudes change when I get to work!
There is nothing wrong with being a girl!!! Trust me my DH was VERY surprised the day I actually killed and processed my first chicken, I am a major animal lover and he thought I would never be able to go through with it. But I did all by muh self, once you do it one time it gets easier the next time and if you go into getting the chickens knowing this is what will happen it helps to. I bet you could do it!
You ought to see my 7 foot tall son nail.
Even a 1 inch roofing nail he smashes sideways~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I told him he nails like a girl.

Chickielady: These are photos for you:
Getting big and actually gobbled today:

DH with his buddies: okay, this photo should have come after the next one...this is with 3 birds on his lap. So order is wrong, but oh well:

Okay, this is an action shot....2 turkeys on DH's lap already and 1 was jealous and wanted up. They jump up on him and just start cuddling. it is crazy. :
Oh my that is so cute !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does the protein content go way down in Layer feed? I know they need more calcium and see the need for that particular boost, but shouldn't protein be a big part of *anyone's* diet, especially a laying hen?
Because those are for adult birds which are grown and so do not need the extra protein.

Yeah, don't worry about it. If you really did something wrong you'd hear about it. The first time it happened to me, on the old BYC, I answer a medical question using the word a nal. The filters kept changing the word to "grumpy" Lol! I must have edited that post 10 times, completely confused.

My favorite was CowGirlGrace talking about the mushrooms............remember that ?
The mushrooms that start with an S.................and the filter kept printing out the word 'nonesense' instead.

We were all wondering what "Nonesense Mushrooms' were......................

Well, I thought Buttercup was 100% when we left for Oregon on Friday, but she was back to laying on her side and not breathing well again today. :(

She died an hour ago.....the family taking care of my birds sent me a message today.

So sorry...
