And a quick coop tour. My husband and I built the run this past week. I still have to paint it and we still need to roof it. Because it is so dark in the run we think we may go with clear or translucent beige corrugated roofing.

Perfect for 3 LF birds. Size-wise, probably no more than 4.

The front...

The back... the top flat area will be a flip up door so we adults can stand up straight while cleaning the run. The kids can walk in just fine.

Rhodie looking at roost number 1... Caunnie demonstrating the nipple system waterer...

The traveler's pop-door. Solar powered with a light sensor. The door opens at dawn and closes at dusk. When you travel, just ask a friend to check on them once each day.

Roost number 2... Rhodie demonstrating the dust bath (although that front corner with the dirt on the white painted wood is where they prefer to bathe)...

Well, that's it. Small. Sweet. A lot of work to build, but definitely worth it.

It is beautiful! You really thought it out and planned well. Very nice coop and run. Your girls should be happy living there!

Quote: I was trying to be helpful no slam intended. I use to repair tv's and radios waayyyyyyyyyy back when they were tube only and solid state wasn't. Most of you probably never saw such a thing. Anyway, when I was called out to a home to repair their tv because it wouldn't come on (yes tv repairmen made house calls back then) many times I found the power cord unplugged from the wall. I found it was best to look into the back of the tv for a minute or two, plug the tv back in (when no one was looking) and voila, I was a hero. There was no flat charge back then for a call-out and I never charged for their error. (I was 18 then and my world was much nicer way back when).
So, that said, I appologize diva if I ruffled your feathers.

I have no idea. I do know to have the Tacoma meat shop clean the birds the hens are more than the boys. Id love to do it but I'm a girl ! My husband had the nerve to call me a girl yesterday when we were working outside. I went to hit him and he said see see you hit like a girl to. I was so made at him

I thought I was a tuff girl and he said No softy girl... Crap

As of recently, Tacoma meat shop is no longer processing poultry!

Does anyone know of a good/cheap mobile butcher who would come process our meat birds next year? I'd love to get some resources together ahead of time...

Holly - Did the 2 girls you gave me have names before I got them? I am at a loss...maybe because I haven't seen much of their personalities other than TIMID for now...hmmmm. Poor babies stay back from the edge of the hutch when all the big girls are around in the run; mine aren't being very hospitable

Could we have another beautiful day here? DD and I are getting ready to take Gryffin the GR for a nice walk down at Chambers Bay above the golf course. It's just about 5 minutes down the hill and overlooks the Narrows. A wonderful walk on a nice day. We have the option of walking the straight path or heading down into the golf course on a 3 mile winding up and down hike through the trees and down past the water and railroad tracks. It is a gorgeous somewhat grueling for those of us who have not kept up on our exercise. Today we're opting for the shorter walk!

When I get home I'm priming the new VF coop. I love my little Silkies but I'm ready to get them out of the house into their own place so have got to get that coop complete! Then I need to figure out where I'm going to house those Seramas...

If you live that way...are you a chicken outlaw?

I thought you could only have 3? Just asking because my friend in U.P. (who also lives right by Chambers and is there almost every day) just got 5 and she's breaking statutes. Oh well, her 5 are quiet and her coop is low key ;)
