I'm so excited!!!

We're picking up our Roo this weekend! He's an old boy. I'd been wanting chickens for years, and DH said no. We visited my folk's farm for a while last year and their Roo crowed his way into DH's good graces. My folks have decided to get rid of all their Roos, and they were all destined for the soup pot. I saved Ol' Red for my DH. Besides, my neighbors keep asking for one in the neighborhood. They miss my old one that got taken out by a dog.

I'm still looking for more hens though.

WE are in Vancouver.....hi again, we are down to 18 girls and one busy rooster. Most are laying now. Can count on a HUGE green egg every day in that garage, and normally at least 2 brown eggs, and about 3 off white....who knows how many eggs are out there we havent found...my silly girls love laying all over the yard but the kids love the egg hunt 2x's a day!!
(and most eggs look fertile when cracked open)

That's some serious chicken smack talk.

You forget that I've got a cochin who's already 4 1/2 months old...

Hey now, she's a new addition so she doesn't count. I'm talking about the race between the original Craig's List feed store chicken 6 pack. Granted, mine came home a couple of days later, but they're close enough!

Me too! But I'm trading places by getting a place in OR but keeping my animals up north. :p

I'd race you all for eggs with my 5 month old silkies, but I'll lose.

I have a question about nesting. My ladies have just begun laying. They don't seem to want to use the nest, they just lay around it or under their roost. Is there a way I can urge them toward their nest?

Hi, I'm new to the chicken bit...went to a local small "farm" to get a replacement bunny...neighbors dog did it in and left with a bunny and 10 chicks! Then since I can't stand paying 4.50 for the eggs my daughters like....I got some older hens off craigs list and some other pullets (now starting to lay). Then I got an incubator....fortunately I do have a couple of acres and 3 daughters (name 3 sisters my oldest daughter made labels for our first couple of boxes of eggs)

Hello, My name is Krista.

I permanently reside in Everett, WA. Although, at the moment I am going to college in Moscow, Idaho. (Woot! Go Vandals!)

I am majoring in Pre-vet and hope to go to graduate school and become a Small animal vet (poultry vet on the side), and I am TRYING to minor in Poultry production...I just have to find a way to do it...

I am glad I found this forum, I would love to meet other Poultry fanciers!

Hehe sorry to be random like this but I was looking at your page and noticed that your Ameracauna is named Lucy!

That's the name of mine too! I just thought Lucy was a cute name for an Ameracauna!
