I am also doing the tick crawly thing~~~~~~~~~~~~~ after weed wacking...thinking permethrin sprayed all over my body from the waist down was OK..and the Dr wacker kicked crap dirt & weeds all over me..............now I am freakin with tickaphobia !!!!!!

Hi All;
Been awhile since I have been on here...but I wanted to let anyone know who is interested, that I have BBS ENGLISH Orps for sale. I have started chicks, and/or hatching eggs,. My lines are from Bama Chicken in Alabama. I got my birds from her last April and they are laying up a storm. You can PM me or email me at [email protected] I am down by Vancouver. But get around a bit due to dog shows almost every weekend. will do my best to meet up with you if possible. Here are some pics of my started chicks...

Fresh eggs do need to be refridgerated like any other eggs, especially if they are fertile.
They should be washed in 120 degree water with a splash of chlorine solution (or dish washer det) gently scrub off poopy/straw/mud and immerse for 30 seconds, immerse again in 120 degree rinse water & drain, wipe dry, and refridgerate.

The ideal water to clean eggs should be at least 10 degrees warmer than the eggs are, up to 120 degrees, as the egg is 110 when it comes out of the hen....believe it or not.

Edited to add:
The only eggs we do not wash & refridgerate are hatching eggs, which any light soil is sanded off with a 3-M pad, and eggs stored at 55 degrees and rotated several times a day, to keep the embryos dormant.
Any warmer & bacteria and the embryos will grow, the embryos will then suffer at any temps under 99.6 and give up in early stages of incubation, making what is called a "blood ring"
hatching eggs must be kept under 60 degrees, chilled, but no lower than 50 degrees.
Alot of folks think hatching eggs must be kept warm and that is far from truth, they need to be kept cool, until warmed to room temperature before setting under a broody or in an incubator.

Thank you for clarifying it for me, CL! Somebody told me that fresh eggs (fertilized or not) don't need to be refridgerated right away.....I'm gonna have to set them straight!

My poor girls are so terrified. They spent the last 3 hours in the coop huddling from the noise I finally went and turned the light on in there, brought some food and water, and left. Just 10 minutes ago went out and they hadn't touched it at all and were all now roosting for the night so I turned off the light and closed them up. I feel so bad for them! Oh well, it's gonna happen every year, they better get used to it!

Other than being entirely miserable with this bear of a cold I have, today was nice! I did let the girls out for half the day and the second they all showed back up in the coop for a snack at the same time I locked them in for the evening so they wouldn't get flighty from all the noise. The kids lit their sparklers and ran around the cul de sac half crazed, they ate red jello that made a huge mess, DH and the 2 big kids had a cherry pit spitting contest off the deck, and we lit off $100 worth of fire crackers in the street for about an hour and a half, and the paranoid mom across the street even let her kids out of their picket fence to come watch. Great day! I'm glad I live in a place where fireworks are allowed; they are pretty much banned in most places in CA, so I didn't grow up having our own street fun, we would just go watch the huge display somewhere local after dark. I like this better, the kids get to enjoy the best of both worlds here!
