Question...

We rescued a really cool thin log from the lake while we were camping. It will make the perfect perch - and having it out of the lake will make the other boaters happy (floating wood can do serious damage to a boat... we know from experience

).

I've read that tree limbs can contain mites, or at least become housing for them. I want to seal this little log with something before using it, but I'm not sure what. Any suggestions?

Anyone's chickens ever make quacking/honking noises? Yup, QUACK. Over and over again!

Caunnie quacks, too! Just before we left I told my husband I was wondering if she had been mixed with a duck. He just rolled his eyes at me. Seriously - she can sound exactly like a duck!

Done! I'm D O N E. Taking the few chicks we're hopefully still picking up on Sunday, waiting until fall for eggs we've ordered (the way the weather is going, it'll be at least that long), and going back to eating the eggs we are lucky enough to have hens lay!
Who did I anger so much to deserve all this?!

Kids are disappointed that we're not bringing home hatching eggs

I hate that they're sharing in the disappointment.

Okay, on our way up I5 to 16 west tomorrow. Stopping near LaCenter and University Place for some gorgeous birds. Hatching eggs in the I5 corridor anyone? Gentle, friendly purebreds that lay really well or 100% Eng Orps.

(I'm so leery of asking this after all our chicken disasters lately!)

I think we carry an extra one now, too. We hit wood once. Not pretty. It took a nice chunk out of the prop. I'm pretty sure DH bought a new one and put that on the boat, then took the busted one somewhere in Tacoma and they repaired the one that had a chunk taken out of it. Pretty cool. Saved one chunk of metal from the landfill.

Hello fellow Washingtonians I was excited when I saw this post.. I have been using this site for a bit now for info and made my first post a couple days ago... lots of good people here it seems I live in Graham, WA. I was raised here on a small 20 acre farm. Had chickens as a kid and wanted them again.. Hubby told me" NO too much work"..... for a couple years and then about a year and a half ago I went out on our 14 year anniversary and bought myself 14 chicks a mix of RIR and Barred Rocks... I put them in a box in our bath tub with a lamp, a red bow and sign that said " Happy Anniversary to Me" LOL What could he do..... That started our adventure.

I still have all those girls.. the one Roo in the bunch literally disappeared.... very mysteriously.

I have since adopted 2 other groups of chickens and now have 2 coops and large runs for all of them for a total of 32 hens and one Roo. The breeds are a bit of a mix.. RIR, BR, EE, Orpingtons, Australops, and some I'm not even sure of. I have become the egg lady to our neighbors, friends, and family I love it.

We have since added 2 Flemish Giant Bunnies to our mix and plan on exploring raising rabbits a bit more. We have a great mix of critters including cattle, 2 cats, 5 Dogs (1 Papillon, 1 English Bulldog, 2 Shepherd mixes and one Lab mix)

I look forward to learning from and sharing info with all the folks here...

hi everyone does anyone have any blue laced red wyandottes i want to start some was just wondering if it is better to has a gold rooster or a silver rooster. i have silver and gold hens i just was hoping for advice on them.

I know someone who has a really gorgeous Rooster - (it was one I raised). I think it would be reasonable if you wanted him (if he still has him).

Hi Fellow Washingtonians. I'm on Whidbey. Looking for some small friendly bantam types (preferably a trio) for my daughter for show in August. We had 3 lovely bantam cochins for her to use and of course neighbor's puppy got into the chicken pen and couldn't resist the cute little fluffy chickens. Sigh...Anyways...let me know. I could pick up within reasonable distance. Thanks!
