Would anyone like to come help me and Renee with the chicken run on Thursday? We're going to predator proof it before my painter comes this weekend. Just odd jobs. I need someone with a Sawzall to help me rip some holes in the coop as well...not enough ventilation at this point. Anyone up for it??

Wohoo!

I checked an egg today and it's FERTILE! Yup, my 18 week cockerel is now doing his job, AND he's protecting the pasture from crows. Even if he can't catch them.

Dave are you worried I will make it drafty or something? It's really hot in there in the summer and there's only a couple small vents on the 5x7 building...and there's going to be 13 total birds in there once a couple newbies grow out and we eat "Dinner". I'd rather ventilate it before we need to in the middle of the winter, especially since it'll look so nice and final with paint over any flaws from opening it up. Renee and I are going to add hardware cloth to the rafter openings so I can keep the birds in the coop/run without having to close the pop door

Is this usual? I know mine's only 13 weeks old but he seems ages and ages away from actually doing his job. Maybe it happens quickly though...

I'm trying to grow pumpkins, but they're doing the same exact thing as last year. They're blooming, then the flowers fall off leaving a blank stem. I bought new seeds this year thinking maybe it was because I was using old seeds. Last year all squash related plants were a bust. Two years ago, I had incredible squash plants and ended up with more than we could consume. I don't know what changed - other than I didn't plant as many varieties as I had that year I had too much. This year, because I was so busy with the chickens, I only planted pumpkins, no squash.

It sounds like your pumpkins aren't getting pollinated. Tell CR to bring over some bees!

Yes, it's terrible that the US sucks like that. We only buy hand made soaps and use products that are 100% safe for our skin, etc. Like Coconut Oil...it's darn near a miracle substance! LOL And I buy all my soaps for the house from Dawng's Etsy shop, she's amazing!

My mom doesn't wear make up ever, and so my sister and I just assumed everyone's eyes burned from the foundation fumes!!! Bare escentuals saved our lives, although everything besides the foundation is loaded with crap. Can you post a link to Dawng's Etsy? I still don't know how to search for members, and I wish I could filter FOR SALE by distance :)
