'Appropriate warnings' is the most important issue. There is nothing wrong with selling many of our most hazardous oils for non-contact uses, i.e. in fragrance heaters, pot pourii, candles, etc. However, it is unscrupulous to not warn people that these products should not be applied to the skin, and also probably illegal. Expressed bergamot and lime oils are good examples of where dangers are well documented and therefore the products must by law bear warnings.

Wow. Lime too? What's crazy is so many of these things are naturally occurring - things you'd expect to be good for you.

I wonder if it kinda goes along the line with the allergy thing. Too much of anything is too much. When I found out I was allergic to egg white, I asked the doctor how on earth. I'm also allergic to many, many medications - and she and my doctor are now suspicious it's the filler I'm allergic to rather than the actual medication. Well, my allergy doctor told me that many of the allergies that people are developing is possibly because people are consuming too much of those substances. She used the egg white as an example - it's a common filler in meds, it's used in baking, cooking, etc. Lots of products use egg substitute - which is, ironically enough, egg white. So this whole low cholesterol push - removing the yolk and using a lot of egg white is causing excessive consumption of egg white.

BTW... food cooked with the egg yolk only is yummy! Yes, I'm going to have to be careful with cholesterol, but since my cholesterol was really low when they checked it, I feel pretty safe eating the occasional french toast breakfast made with egg yolk only.

That's one reason I can't wait for my chickens to start laying. I won't feel as bad throwing out the egg whites if I'm not buying the eggs. Eggs are a byproduct of our family having a pet.

Last evening I went out to look at Drama's beak to see how it was doing. She had managed to break the tip off. Honestly, despite the slight underbite, it looked so much more comfortable for her. So... there's like a pad of thick skin that sits beneath the beak shell. I'm guessing that's what is meant by the "quick"??? Through research, it sounds like the hard part is like a fingernail and will grow back. I'm sure hoping so!

don't throw out the whites, cook them and feed them back to the birds, it's protein, don't waste it!

You can feed the whites to Drama

Sheesh! As an ex-English teacher, I'm ashamed to have fallen in to that one!
Why "EX"? Didn't you like doing it? We need good English teachers.

My pet peeve in this country is the bad English.

These are ones that I really hate. I think even worse though, is that there are so many people who home-school, yet they cannot speak or write properly themselves. I find myself slipping into bad ways too, now.

So... Drama...

When we took the pictures of Drama's broken beak, I had set her in my 10-year-old's lap so he could hold her still. She let me take the shots, then struggled against him to get out of his lap and hopped down. It wasn't far at all. That poor chickie... she landed on her feet then went face forward and landed on her face. Poor girl. At that time it didn't look like it did any more damage to the beak.

Yesterday I did see her scraping her beak on the concrete, which, I would guess be what caused that tip to come off.

I'm thinking her body is just too big for her feet. She's a chunk. I should reweigh her - she's feels a lot heavier than when I weighed her last.

When I went for a walk last evening, DH yelled for me to put her on a leash and take her for a walk so she could lose weight.

Are there any chicken exercises I can do with her to help her build strength in her legs? From all the Brahma pictures I've seen, it seems like they have sturdy legs that can hold them up. Or are they all clumsy like Drama? Anyone know?

Ex because of two reasons -- I had kids and wanted to stay home with them, and I was really tired of dealing with high school parents who didn't want their kids to have so much homework getting in the way of watching TV or didn't want their kids to read the terrible Grapes of Wrath.......

My goal is to get a MA so I can teach college. Someday.

I had a high school English teacher who used to bring in her pet peeve of the day for the class to analyze (no apostrophe on a sign, no comma in a newspaper article......). I used to do the same with my high schoolers. Amazing how little they actually caught!

I have a friend who frequently writes "loose" for "lose" on Facebook. Drives me crazy! Not that I'm any better. I mistype all the time because I type fast and don't pay attention.

I agree with the homeschooling issue. I know too many people who have, unknowingly, short-changed their children's lives because they chose to do so without the help of an outside teacher. The state has homeschooling for free, where kids can be monitored by a teacher, but many home-school families don't want anyone to supervise what they do.

I felt bad for one family, by the time the mom realized that her kids were far behind, her oldest couldn't even qualify to get into college and was struggling at a lower level school. It was at that time the realization hit her that the only skills her high-school daughter had was house-cleaning. The mom had made an assumption, that because she was a business owner, she was qualified to teach. When, in reality, her concept of teaching turned into her children taking care of household tasks for the family while she worked on her business.
