I remember a couple years ago when my flock found a really great toy. They had a garter snake-it must have slithered into the run. They had it inside the coop and were running around with it. They took it outside and dropped it. It was rearing up and striking like a cobra. ****** off snake. I rescued it poor thing.I've seen rubber boas big enough to eat an egg. I've seen skinny garter snakes eat slugs 4x their girth. Their jaws unhinge amazingly far. (Sorry for that image, snake-haters!) But I would not worry about snakes in WW. I'd worry *for* the snakes. Snakes seem kind of slooooooooow here in the PNW, relatively. I think the heat makes the SE snakes fast and bold and ornery.
I like having them around. They are pretty harmless. If they want to hang out in my garden and sun themselves and eat slugs, that is fine by me.
