I would do a red light and like Z said, put another chick in to see what they do with each other. But I would definitely keep it seperate for a day or so and maybe find something to put on it so it isn't red? If it is scabbed over can you put blucoat on it?

I don't own a red light and have very limited funds.

Right now its in the incubator keeping warm. The wound is all scabbed over. Its doing better but now the one eye is shut and for some reason the other eye won't open. Which is probably why its not peeping its head off. I need to find another lamp so I can at least get it out of the incubator.

Where do you get the blue stuff?

Well put the chick in with the rest. I figured that the scab is the same color as the silkie skin and so its not very noticeable. I went in there to check on it and it had wondered off from the group. As I watched another chick went after and grabbed its beak with its beak and got it turned the right way and kept coming back to it till it made its way back to the pile of chicks.

I am not so sure that the Yakima area (VF) is getting this weather. They have had some H***ish lightning storms (I was down there just 2 weeks ago and there was a crazy storm).

RFF - I have heard a bit from her on FB. She is on high ground so is probably fine. Maybe some run off and I bet her horse pasture is a bit of a lake/pond....but regarding the lightning we have had - there are no substantial fires at this point. We must have received 1.5-2 inches of rain in roughly an hour yesterday (I am just guessing I am not a meterologist and don't know) so any fires are probably out.

Priest Lake, Idaho, had lots of trees blown over. So did Republic area. Part of hiway 97 near Malott got washed over/out the other day. Today looks dry...my poor birds need a day to dry out. Moses Lake had crazy rain (saw on the news). But that is about what I have heard.

THAT IS TERRIBLE!!!! My heart goes out to them! Sending them prayers and good vibes.
Here in the Tri-Cities we have had so many thunderstorms. My dad has lived here 65yrs and doesn't remember ever having more than 2 in a year. Thankfully we haven't had any flooding though.

It's the fires from T-stroms that scare the heck outta me !

I went to check on the broody and noticed the chick I thought would hatch was gone. I've had newly hatched chicks go missing before so I did a quick look around and didn't see it. Well I went back in and checked again and noticed the chick laying on its side with a wound to its head and was cold. But it was still alive.

I thought its neck might be broken because it was floppy so I brought it in a warmed it up. The good part is its doing much better but I think its to injured to put back with mom. I don't know what to put on it. And I can't get anything till tomorrow.


I also have 16 chicks that hatched yesturday. Is it to injured to put in with them?

I posted this in the emergency section.

Try triple antibiotic ointment on the open areas, carefully with a Q-Tip...he/she may be just fine after that.
As long as others do not get to peck at the sore area and keep it open again.
May have to re-apply the oinment every few days.

Anybody like watching Downton Abbey? Oh my goodness I'm obsessed! I've watched both seasons 1 & 2 twice in the last month. Love it!

I love that show and was watching it every week but fell off when this (ahmmm!) nice weather hit, now it is hard to know what is going on as I have missed so much !

OK so guys...I have to tell you about this awesome thing I'm using to remove a mole or two. One time, and one time only, did I have a mole CUT out by surgery and IT CAME BACK. So now I'm trying natural stuff. It's called C-Herb by NatureMadeOrganics.com and I think it's working! You should totally go there and check out what it does...seriously, it forces your own immune system to reject the tissue and push it out of your body. Awesome. I'll let you know if it works for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's going well.

these guys are part "dog". They follow me around. They like to bite my painted toe nails. They want to sit in your lap. I had to do some rearranging of pens (chicken) so that the turkey's could see US better. They like to be able to see us, especially me or the husband. what a bunch of lovers. Well of course I love them too...especially with mashed potatoes and gravy

....I am kidding. None of these guys will see the freezer. I promise. My daughter even made me "sign" an contract that none of these 6 will see the inside of the freezer.

I am so tired today...coming down with some sort of cold/sinus thing.
Can't figure out what could be blooming now that is bothering me so much ??????????

JB: There is a horde of cockerels here you can take home to process, so save room for the plucker and a crate.
I have several at 3 mo and a few starting to crow.
I processed 8 last week and have enough in the freezer already.
have loads of small guys too.
