So CL, why don't you just come right out with it instead of pussyfooting around. Tell them all about the blood spurting everywhere, and all over you. And the horrible noise and gurgling sounds, and the terrible flapping of wings and the moaning and sighing as they eventually pass out from loss of blood.

And then there's that disgusting noise they make when you put your hand inside and the lungs expel the air from the cut esophagus - sounds eerie and ghostly to me. And if you push just right, you can make them give off a squawking noise even without heads.

And we aren't even going to talk about the smell. . .

But, apart from that it's not too bad.

I went home with blood in my hair last week (advice, tie back long hair when processing!). I washed off my arms in case I was stopped on the way home, didn't want to explain to the police why I had fresh blood stains on me.

The severed windpipe does make some interesting noises, I joked to JB and DH that we should use it as a musical instrument. But I have a wacky sense of humor...

But seriously, it's not like a slasher film or anything.
I went home from Oral Surgery one day & found my tenny runner laces encrusted with a hunk of raw chicken meat.................

HA HA I figure if you were a Dental Assistant you would be OK with pus & blood by now.
Not much blood in General Dentistry, but OMG you ought to do Oral Surgery !!!!!!!!!!
Oh didnt do oral surger but did it in our practice thought the Dr would see sinus on one person. We just kept looking at each other...

Oh I dont have any birds to do the deed to yet but was thinking of others who might and thought it would be best if they took them off the stuff.

I have some roosters that are 2 month old now that might do it too just not really sure. I know hubby wouldnt let me do it here I dont think.. But they are to small I think still. They are English Orp boys so they get big...

Welcome to all the new folks! And welcome home Ogress, Dawng and CR!

I hope RedReiner is doing better.

RaZ, remind your city that people keep large birds like macaws, cockatoos, etc. in the house all the time and some sit out on perches and aren't caged. Chickens are domesticated. It's not like you're trying to keep vultures.

And Itsren, I've been a counselor (getting ready for Blue Angels camp next week) for years and have seen many first time campers...I think your DS will be fine and have a great time!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Well if we are all talking and joking I think I should be OK with it. Just cant think about it and dwell on it that's for sure... Oh I'm sure the smell isn't nice. I was with a friend when she picked up her beef and the place was still wrapping and have to say that smell after 15 didn't make me feel very good..

I can handle blood for sure had horse's and getting the male gilded by a few vets was interesting. One guy said do you want me to toss them here or there and don't get me started on the goat that had them up inside. We laughed so hard with the one my son and vet had me rolling.

Told my hubby what I was going to do and he just looked at me like sure you are...

LF egg-layer breeds need to be at least 4 mo old...(in my opinion)......otherwise you cannot get your hand in the ab cavity, it is too small an opening on cockerels.
In addition to that: the older they get, the tougher they get AND to top it off, if you process a cockerel (egg layer breed) under 4 mo old, there ain't much meat there..........

Unfortunately, logic and local government are not on the same page.
