So can I ask you if my hubby and son can come during bow hunting season? They have never got anything and have tried for the past 3 years. Yes they are new to it but dont have anyone one who can show them a good place to hunt. We have spent so much money in all the gear they better get something soon I tell ya..

I can surely ask the guys here...it is up to them.
There is kinda a gang of dudes that hunt together every year , all over the area.
So I will see.

You know what is the worst part about everything you have posted??? Your RIGHT!!!! P*sses me off sometimes.

But you are right.
Now there is a strike with Waste Management....Cracks me up that all these people are complaining & whining that their YARD WASTE is going to pile up & be so stinky and attract vermin...yada yada yada...whine, snivel, whine.

SO WHY DON'T THESE SNIVELERS LOAD THEIR OWN TRASH UP AND HAUL IT TO THE DUMP ?????????????????????????
They do not know where their food comes from, and they expect a service to haul off their waste.
And this is yard waste !

I bet RainWolf recycles ALL her yard waste & probably neighbor's as well.
Needs to be composted & made into a garden !!!

Good for you ! keep up the good work.
But I was referring to how you cannot can on a ceramic topped range (that I know of)
I have been told they (ceramic tops) cannot deal with the heat properly & that it is very dangerous.be careful !
I have canned on a ceramic topped stove for a couple of years and it has been fine. Mine doesn't have the heat control of some.

Yes! That age difference is just enough for catastrophic results (or everything could be just hunky dory). It's easy enough--just have their pens right next to each other for at least 1 or 2 days. Then combine them when you can be there to remove the older ones if things look like they will be violent. (Don't put them together, then leave for work.) I found hanging out in the coop, keeping the peace somewhat, has helped. Expect some dominance show-downs regardless.

Make sure there is two food dishes and waterers, at least temporarily. For 3-week olds, I have fashioned one from a quart yogurt tub and a deep rubbermaid lid (if you don't feel like buying a new one.)

I have not have heaps of experience with combining flocks, but I think this advice is sound.

That is what I thought too from reading the boards. I just thought that maybe they were still young enough to not have too much of an issue.

Yard waste? Even growing up on a town lot, all that stuff was tossed in a compost pile. Then it would be put on the garden later on after it finally did compost (grew up on the dry side just over the border in Oregon). Now I just put it in a pile and it's good in a few months max and apparently fertilizes volunteer squash perfectly with chicken litter.

Yard waste is free dump here. It takes a few minutes to load and unload. We have trash and recycle service, but if they weren't picking up, I'd just take it myself once a month since we only have about a bag a week and not usually anything smelly since if it composts, it gets composted. We take the larger trash in ourselves and it's not exactly a difficult thing to do.

Hi, can I join? I just signed up for this site and I'm having a blast reading all the forums. I'm in Lewis County, on the WET side. I've had chickens forever, since I was a child, but now I'm exploring ducks. I look forward to getting to know a few of you.

You'll find MOST people on here are from the beautiful wet side! I feel left out over here in the dry, windy side! I think there's only 2 or 3 over here!!!

Wrong.....face the music that makes the world go round.
Every human in the world needs to know exactly how their FOOD is processed, and learn to PROVIDE for your family instead of liviing on processed garbage.
Years from now we will see a stark difference in diseases, including Autism...and Cancers.....due to the fact of People growing their OWN FOOD.
Not just meat, but veggies as welll.......and get SOLAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super Cool, eh ?

P.S. There is a Koi pond to the LEFT of this frame, and that is why there is netting over the pond...............Kingfishers and wadding birds eat the koi.........so all our ponds were covered.
I COMPLETELY AGREE ABOUT THE NEED FOR KNOWLEDGE OF WHERE FOOD COMES FROM!! As far as the solar power, I have many other things higher up on my priority list (as wonderful as it would be, especially being in the sunny side of the state). Maybe once we are debt-free (LOVE Dave Ramsey, but we have backslid) we can look into saving for solar! Congrats on yours!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glass topped covered ranges are for USERS............these are people who want what they want when they want it::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: USERS
They generate no FOOD for their increasing families..........and the US POPULTION is growing by MIllions !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who is feeding YOU ??????????????????????

I have a friend who breeds DOGS and she has bumper sticker of:

IF YOU BREED THEM THEN YOU FEED THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good to me....................You bred 6 kids.............................well cool dude, then feed them !!!!!!!!!!! Be resonsible !!!!!!!!!!!

I have said several times...........I go up & down streests and see NO ONE WITH A GARDEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
This makes me feel bad as I have a glass top

! I'm just recently beginning to generate food as, up until last year, I have had to work full-time and with several disease processes sapping me I couldn't keep up with everything. I have to pick and choose how and where to make life easier. I AM a true believer in trying to be self-sustained in any way possible, though, and am REALLY trying to find more ways I can accomplish that!
Fortunately, I only "bred" 1 (haha!) since I knew we wouldn't be able to do certain things for her if we had more than that! Sometimes I wish I had more but with my health and due to other circumstances it was a good decision for US to stop!
Gardening in the DRY-Cities is not easy, but I am happy with the little successes I've had and am trying to not freak over the losses! It will get better as I improve my soil with the help of my feathered friends!

Well OK then !!!

I actually like mine except the fact that I cant use my canning equipment on it. That's an easy fix, I still get to can all the vegetables that I grow, all my own apples into applesauce, Strawberries , Raspberries and Blueberries from my own garden into jams and freezers. I guess I'm kinda spoiled because I have never had to eat store bought canned fruits, jams or Vega tables and my child never had to eat baby food from the store I made it all myself. Since I had the privilege of learning the craft of canning as the fourth generation woman to live on our farm..Yep looking back I think I'm pretty lucky to of been taught all that, it does seem like kinda a lost art or way of life
big_smile.png
A good way of life. Like you said no gardens .
I TOTALLY ENVY YOU!!! I grew up in the country but never raised anything on our land (such a waste) but I did have 10 acres of family sagebrush land to play in! I would occasionally help my neighbors (who's daughter I was friends with) with their "worm ranch" and their pigs and such. I always loved being around the animals. I'm still trying to get my city-boy hubby to get with the idea of raising more animals but I am having to research how to make enough money with them or at least break even!
I hope I can do it too! I'm gonna be brave...I'm gonna be brave...!!!
I just know that I don't ever want to buy store meat again, I want to know that everything we eat is humane.
Yep! IN regards to autism, like renee said, I also think that the rates aren't skyrocketing, it's just that more people are being diagnosed with it because we have more concerned parents. Way back when, parents would just say "Yup, our kid is a little odd but he's alright" when in reality said child might have had autism somewhere on the spectrum, however mild. Whereas today everyone is so diagnosis happy, we seem to just want an explanation for everything. I still think that MANY children who are diagnosed with something need not be; there's a lot to be said for leaving things alone and not trying to explain things away, and offering lots of love and discipline for those types of children, but I also understand that some parents like the diagnosis so they can seek help and support.

As for going green and doing our best, nobody can do it all, all the time. There are tradeoffs in life, plain and simple. I have recently, after 3.75 years of cloth diapering both my younger children (2.3 years of that was with 2 in diapers full time), decided to stop using cloth and do other things instead. I feel good about our choice, even though disposables still make me cringe. I did my part to keep 10,000 diapers out of the landfill and now I need more time for outdoor activities such as caring for my chickens and starting up a garden; tradeoffs, tradeoffs, tradeoffs! And, just because someone CAN do it all doesn't mean that person SHOULD do it all; I would seriously kill myself of exhaustion if I decided to keep my house acceptably clean, cloth diaper, have chickens, goats, pigs, horses, cattle (all for meat and sustainable living), grow a garden, homeschool my children, and teach them and train them to be loving, caring, hard working Christians who love God and live well on earth. For crying out loud, just the last 2 things take up most of my day! Renee hit the nail on the head by saying you do what you can. Not everybody can quit their jobs and be a full time farmer.
AMEN SISTA!! THERE ARE EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES IN MANY OF OUR LIVES THAT PREVENT US FROM BEING TOTALLY SELF-SUSTAINED BUT IT IS SOMETHING WE CAN (AND SHOULD) WORK TOWARDS WITHOUT KILLING OURSELVES OVER IT AND TRY NOT TO JUDGE OTHERS BUT EDUCATE AND LEAD BY EXAMPLE! WE ALSO NEED TO TRY TO VOTE OUR GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR PERSONAL LIVES SO WE CAN MOVE TOWARDS THIS AND NOT BE SO DEPENDANT ON THEM!
It irritates me to no end when I see droves of people lined up at the food bank ( I have donated to the Food Bank for decades) and yet Not one of them will go out in their LARGE yards and plant a garden !!!!!!!!!!! I think we are one of 3 gardens within a 5 mile radius.
It is sad that so many people rely on someone else to feed them !!!!!!!!!!!!
rant.gif
And food seeds can be purchased with food stamps...so their really is little excuse to not grow a garden.
MAN, YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE MARK THERE!
I HAD NO IDEA FOOD STAMPS CAN BE USED TO PURCHASE SEEDS!!! I DON'T USE THEM BUT THAT IS AWESOME INFO AND SHOULD BE SPREAD AROUND!! I WOULD BET THAT MOST DON'T REALIZE THAT!
