HI there!
I am not sure what you mean about showing "crown" on their beaks. Are you talking about their comb?
Some girls have little ones but they are really pale pink or peach. If it is a boy it will be starting to turn very pink or rosey colored. What breeds do you have?
It would be great if you had pictures. Maybe some of us on here could help you out.

Some breeds are more difficult to determine at 3 weeks than others.

Yes, I guess I meant their comb. I will try to get some pics tomorrow and post them :)

So...Ricky is becoming a huge nuisance! I know, I know, ROOSTER! Duh, but not only is he crowing...loudly. But he's doing it from 5:25am for many, many minutes on end; he'll stop for a minute and start up again. Seriously, he gets up, stands outside the coop, and crows at the coop until every last bird is up and out. It's ridiculous.

Sorry to hear your pretty little boy is being such a nuisance. Of course, I've never had a rooster - but I'm pretty sure the early morning crowing is why it is illegal to have a rooster in so many cities. I wonder if he would crow if the pop door was closed at night. Could you try that? Keep him in the coop until you're ready to let him out and see if he keeps it quiet. If not, that bird is probably garage bound with a blanket over a cage. Or, maybe a cage in the coop, with a blanket over that would do him good, too. You'll have to experiment.

Roosters can violate city noise codes. In our city, we have to have it quiet between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. And, the city won't hesitate to show up on someone's door and threaten with a $250.00 fine if any neighbor's make a formal complaint. The night before we went to Lake Chelan, we were busting our behinds to finish up the first coop and run - to have it fully enclosed and safe for our birds while we were gone. We literally shut the saws off at 10:00 p.m. but we were still a little worried we'd have police showing up at our door.

Hi all. Got a friend here tonight fixing a few things on the coop and prepping it to paint this week. He takes a long time but is cheap and does great work. Can't wait to take pics of it when it's all done!

Will he ever crow LESS than he does now, like once he gets all this out of his system? Or is he always going to be up with the sun and crow without ceasing all morning. I have very close neighbors and I'd rather keep the peace with them even if roosters are legal, than keep Ricky unfortunately. He's such a great little boy, but I'm at my wits end and DH said NO MORE early crowing or Ricky would be dinner. Ugh. Help! Tonight I have him in a cat crate, in the coop, with a towel over it to prevent light from getting in, but I'm worried he might not get enough air at night? I need everyone's opinions on how to keep him, if I can.
Roosters crow at all hours all day. It doesnt really have anything to do with sun up sun down, atleast not around here!
They crow all day at my house. I only have one with an annoying crow the rest I dont mind hearing.
I had a couple of roosters that would crow REALLLLLY LOUD at 2, 3 and 4 am.
My neighbors are super nice and never really complained but it did annoy them and we werent attached to those roosters so we took them to the sale.

Keeping them locked in the coop until 7ish in the morning will atleast muffle his crow.

if you have a garage or shed that will help dead the noise you should do as I do.... every night after dark I close up the coops, grab the boys and toss em into a dog crate. then I put them in a area that will not allow the noise to get loud enough to bother neighbors. every morning after 9:30am I let the boys out..... Works good.

Good luck with that FirewifeJesse. Is DH going to process him?

What a great idea Rainwolf. I have 2 Roos, about 18 weeks old and neither one have started crowing yet...patiently waiting....

Does anyone caponize their Roos around here?

If you can prevent him from being able to stand up completely, that should prevent him from crowing.

Roosters crow :)

Out of the loop for three days and have 25 pages to go through to catch up! Had a great time this weekend in Medford, OR at a BFF's wedding, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones from the groom side!

Went on a 4 hour raft trip on the Rogue River. Hadn't done that in over 20 years. It was so much fun! My body is paying for it though, I am sore ALL OVER from all the rowing (I was in front, navigating).

Hope every one has a great week, and welcome newbies!!
