Yay! So you did hold her upside down for a minute to get her calmed down? Glad it worked!

Yep! She squawked and flapped until she was completely inverted, then she calmed right down. I turned her upside down very slowly and I held onto her body the whole time - didn't have the heart to hang her from her legs like they showed in the "Chicken Whisperer" section of the book I'm reading. She didn't squawk or flap at all after that, not even when I set her in the chicken tractor. She and the other girls have been in the tractor since that moment, and I've been watching them. She hasn't caused any of her typical ruckus that she causes with the other birds, either.

I've done it to a couple of my girls who wouldn't stop pecking at me; they haven't done it since! I think things will be better when Ricky is gone too, since they will "listen" to me instead of him

Silkie question... DH and I were talking about what our next 3 birds would be. He's concerned about Silkies. He works with someone who has a mean Silkie that attacks. Is this a common Silkie trait? I don't know if the Silkie his co-worker has is a Cockeral/Roo or Pullet/Hen.
I've heard of mean Silkies but most of the ones I've met, and the ones I have, are total sweethearts! I have a cockerel (in my avatar) that is just a love. I can pick him up and carry him anywhere, and he is a complete gentleman.

Friday night I lost 2 people I knew, 1 of which was like a sister to me, in a motorcycle accident on cooper mountain.
I have a bunch of extra chicks/chickens I just can't deal with right now on top of everything else.....
I would like to offer them for sale for a steal of a price just to get the numbers down and get some relief. I have way to many right now and am just overwhelmed...... These are all worth way more then list price and I will give a huge discount for 5 or more chicks...... I will donate most of these chicks to a 4h home as well so please contact me for details.

They are not from hatchery birds! The parents are all show and breeding quality stock who do very well in the eastern states.

What I have is:
3 weeks old $5 each
All are LF and are strait run but I have sold most I "think" are the males. Its still possible I missed one or two in the bunch.....
2 Barred Rock
2 Splash Jersey Giants
3 Black Jersey Giants
1 blue Jersey Giant
3 Black TRUE Ameraucanas

2 RARE Gold laced Brahmas $20 each

8 weeks old $15 each
Showgirl Silkies while, partridge and splash

2 Silkie roosters $10 each or fee if you buy anything else!
1 is really nice BQ splash, is almost 2yrs old, he has a correct comb but his comb is a little bit to red and he got into a fight with my rabbit and lost a toe nail... long story....
1 is a really nice white boy, 1 year old who is great with the girls and amazing with chicks. Could be shown but he is moulting right now so isn't 100%.

I would like to rehome them ASAP as I have 2 funerals coming up this weekend then I am getting married the following weekend.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers for you and the loved ones of those lost.

I am new to this site but im replying to this thred because i live in maple valley and i have polish, silkies, bantam cochins, jappanise bantam,

Welcome! Silkies are on our list of babies to get in the spring!

welcome! I have my first two bantam chicks - they are so fun and adorable.

I have my first two banties too. They are adorable and are definitely our favorite! They are always peeping and chirping and they follow us all over the place. They are so funny b/c if we act like we are trying to catch them, they run but if we kneel down and wait, they turn around and come right up to us. Silly little sweeties. I'm not sure the sexes of either of mine or the breed of one of them, I'm going to post pics here and see what everyone thinks. I just need to get some decent and recent ones of them. I'll go do that now....

I had a very nasty hatchery buff silkie that I made soup out of. That meanness seems to flavor everything better and make it much easier to take care of the problem. The hatchery black silkie I had was just a darling. I miss him and curse the dang dog that got him. The blue silkie I got from Justbugged turned out to be a cockerel and he's a nice little boy who has just recently discovered that he IS a boy but doesn't know what to do. I can do anything to him and he just sits there and lets me. I've got him running to me to beg for treats now, too. The only aggression ever shown is trying to be dominate to the much younger ameraucana cockerel who doesn't put up with that and has relegated him to croney (they sleep together).
