Here are some pics of the coop we are building. We are doing this freestyle, lol. No plans, just making it up as we go....

...to be continued :)

Great coop pics! That will be for 5 chickens? Looks about right...do you plan to free range them though? If not, I think it's too small, but do your own research.

I'm assuming you meant the run is too small?

The bottom run opens so we can let them out, or I was thinking I could make a detachable run, "chicken tractor" i guess you call it, on one side so I can let them free range in the garden beds and the grass. I don't want them visiting any neighbors, lol. And the coop will be surrounded by raised bed gardens when we get done. Right now I have only one raised bed which you can't see in the pic, but they LOVE garden scraps already :)

I did measure, and I thought I had built the coop area big enough for 4-6 chickens. I hope I did. Or we will be building another. It was mostly made of scrap lumber for various other projects we have done, and I bought a few more of the 2x2's and the plywood. So we really didn't spend too awful much on it. Oh, and the hardware cloth we bought for this project.

It has been really fun to build, and not too bad a job for three chicks with tools :)

I will post pics of the inside soon and see if anyone has suggestions. We have raccoons so I will be adding the hardware cloth around the perimeter. Thinking about making a cement platform under it, hmmm, it is still light enough for us to move if we need to.

Hi all - I get the friends award and then vanish for most of the month! Great Timing!. Just checking in to say hello. I have been studying like crazy for an exam, but I really need to set up a schedule and get some structure back in my life because my practice exams have gone from scores in the 90's down to the low 70's! I was studying a couple hours a day but increased it to 8 and stopped doing everything else. My scores dropped as my hours studying increased! I'm taking a break from studying today because it is my B-Day. I decided I'm 4 years younger today. I'd shave off more than that, but I don't think I'd pass

I gave a lot of chicken coop tours over the weekend. I wasn't planning on it, but we had a month-late birthday party for my DD over the weekend (back-yard camping slumber party). We only decided to do the party the afternoon before, and I did not have her friends numbers to call, so I posted it on FB. 10 of her friends showed up and all the parents wanted to see the chicken coop!

My chickens are doing great - turns out I did not lose the 2 I had thought I had earlier; they just moved themselves into an old tree stump deep in the woods where they were sitting broody!

This weather has been beautiful! I spread seeds over the sawmp-land when I returned from Hawaii, and now I have a lawn there again! I'm not sure it will last. Maybe in the fall I will be turnng it into the pond it wished to be.

I hope you are all doing well - that coop build looks great! I'm going back to look at more pages.

Thought I would share some photos of my Fav pair Romeo and Juliette. 18 weeks

Very happy chickens dust bathing. This is their spot. The one place the other girls don't bug them.

I think I have decided to eventually only have EE's and Favs. I think they are my favorite breeds out of all the ones I have had. Sussex are coming in a close third though. Lol!
Bautiful! I have wanted Fav's since the first time I have seen them! They will have to wait a few years until I have more room. I also want more marans. They are the nicest broodies even if they were aloof before. I'm not afraid to reach under them to check for eggs. My Blue Ameracaunas - need leather gloves when they are broody!

Does anyone know where I can get get 2, 8-12 week old marans or EE? Need to re-home the roo and and replace him with new friends for our pullet. I don't get on here enough to keep up in this thread, so if you could PM I would greatly appreciate it!

Can y'all recommend any awesome feed stores or other poultry supplies places in the South Sound? We are in Rochester, which is about a sneeze south of Olympia. So anywhere from about Vancouver-ish up to Tacoma/Fife would be great. Aside from Dells, for example, somewhere with a lot of nifty stuff and options available.

Thanks much in advance!
