Came home and was expecting a dead chick. Its perked up a little and has a lot more running around energy. Still wheezing and a tiny bit of gasping but not like this morning. I had put electorlitize in the water. maybe that helped or the small amount of olive oil.

I am hoping for more progress. Its got feathers on the legs so I was hoping that I could keep it. The other older serama is a diffenent frizzle. And I think its a male.

Glad he is doing better!

Back with pics! I'm just thrilled! It was around 4:30 when I went downstairs to grab something. No.Joke...I just knew. I immediately got on my sandals and went out the back door for no reason, checked the boxes and there it was! Our very first egg, laid by Scarlett my RIR who is the only one that has ever checked out the rabbit hutch nest box or gone inside to root around. They're super tiny, didn't even move my egg scale, Peewee Eggs! I brought it in to show all our company and of course all the big kids ran around to all the neighbors to tell them and soon we had quite a crowd. They all went home and I took a picture or so, put the egg in the fridge and got busy again with Jeanine's birthday stuff. An hour after the first find I went out to say hi to the girls and say "Good job!" and my nephew says there's another egg but he doesn't know if it's a dummy or real. Sure enough there was a new, fresh, warm, tiny egg in the coop nest box! Here's the pics :)
#1, laid by a RIR:
DD (turning 4 on Tuesday!) holding it :) She's so excited!

And then there were two!

Aw, here are the pics! These are so cute! Love those expensive first eggs!

Thanks Dawn! I am just so terribly excited still! I was seriously shaking when I came inside with the egg. I just held it up for a minute until someone realized what it was! Tada! My heart still beats fast when I think about finding it, LOL! I'm lame ;)

You're not lame. Those first eggs are very exciting and just awesome to get. I still get excited when I get an egg from a girl who just starts.

Oh, and more joy:
Turns out our contractor for the roof trusses is none other than CR's nephew who just got married and is now off gallivanting on his HoneyMoon somewhere for the next 2 weeks~~~~~~~~~~~
Great.
So DH (Einstein) is having yet one more contractor come bid the job, and if it is a higher bid, we will have to waite for CR's nephew to come back home & get the job done.

@3!*&!!!** ?!*%$#@!!!!!!!

Guess we know how to pick 'em...would have been seriously NICE if the newly married contractor had told us he was gonna be gone right when he was to start working !!!

FYI I do know while I was there he had a meeting with his crew about the job (s) to be done while he is gone!

Well, well. Day b4 yesterday, 5 of 7 chickens gave me eggs. Yesterday they gave me 4 eggs and today I got 6 eggs from my 7 hens.
Neghbor lady was pleased, another neighbor says he won't eat brown eggs just because he thinks they should be white.
So, egg production is coming along nicely, the eggs are increasing in size as time goes on.
No problems so far, (knock on wood)

They have deer on them. There are white spots on the necks and tails of the deer. I think maybe it looks like little eyes all over watching them or something.

When they hear me open the back door they always come running to beg for a treat. It's all find and dandy until I open that screen door and they see the pants. I've had them turn in mid flight to go the other direction.
That is why I go in to the run pantless.

First egg from a hen is always a great experience.

Wow, that's so cool! Congratulations! How much bigger will her eggs get? And where did you get that awesome scale???

I am determined to see this through and get my coop built. Unfortunately, clearing the ground has stalled thanks to carpal tunnel. I'm working on getting a friend to help. I've got a contractor coming over on Tuesday to give me a bid on putting in the pavers (that the coop will sit on) plus a small patio around it. I was hoping to save money, but at this point I want it done and I don't want to mess up my hands permanently.
