Something you might want to consider is a nice kind of vine (like honeysuckle). It will look quite nice and provide some good shade! That's what we have going for our run.

OOO, I have two of those that grow great around here. I may have to plant another for the chickies! I'm gonna try to get some Austrian Willows planted around the coop since they grow fast. I just need to get more hoses so I can water them way out there!

When mine have ventured to the front yard they have totally left mine alone.

3:16 pm and my outside thermometer just hit 101*. In the house is 89* and going up.

OH BUMMER! I always forget most houses on the west side don't have air conditioning since it's usually not necessary! Time to fill the tub with ice!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay cool!!!!!!

I have a thermometer outside my kitchen window and right now in the direct sun it is reading 114* F! I'm glad the Silkies have shade in their yard!

Hi All, have a friend that is thinking of adding a Dorking Rooster to her flock but we don't know anyone in Washington especially the west side that may raise them.....Am not sure if she cares what variety since it is the white eggs and docilness that she is interested in and has a mixed flock..... Any info is greatly appreciated......and i will pass it on to her.....eliz [email protected]

They like to pick at the leaves and they LOVE to eat the flowers when they fall. Mine race out of the house in the morning and gobble up any flowers that fell since they were put to bed. If the vine is established on the outside of the coop, they shouldn't harm it. It really does provide good shade.

Just thought I'd pop in and say hey to all. Here it ellensburg it has been in the 90's forever. Only way to stand it is to keep fans blowing on us. Have angora rabbits in the livingroom with 2 fans. Moved all other rabbits into enclosed back porch with fan. Now we are dealing with smokey air from the fire. In AZ I had misters for my chickens and they were fine. They had shade too. One of those mister things that look like a bent stick and attach to the hose work well. They are about $10 or less.

I sure miss having a/c in the house. I live in an old run down house and the windows are mostly painted shut. A couple of them open about 4 or 5 inches. Not enough to cool the house down. We have 10 fans running all the time.

My friend just gave away a dorking cockerel and two pullets. Bradley Farm here in Tacoma is raising Dorkings and selling hatching eggs. They can be found on Facebook.

I feel very similar. Only I say it's us taxpayer's that make your paycheck happen.
