A local friend's daughter was sleeping and woke up with a similar wound on her arm. Well, misdiagnosis after another...the cellulitis and the inflammation and the necrosis of her arm. She ended up (I think at Harborview) in hospital and had to have her arm amputated. She is a young girl/teenager. Just awful. this happened just last year.

Wow, that's awful. Especially happening to someone so young.

What do you all do when you feel a sore throat starting and suspect a cold coming on? My neck is sore to the touch, and I have no desire to get sick now (nor ever).

We have a LOT of those in the house. The kind that literally RUN across the middle of the floor at night and you can still see them in the dark they're so big. LIke from horror movies. ugh.
It must be going around, we've lately had quite a few visits from Shelob and friends. Enormous, Halloween special spiders.

And yeah...our house was a major spider house before we moved in. They had it all to themselves for 11 months before we bought it, so last summer was a living nightmare! This summer is a bit better but not much.

Busy Busy but very successful at the fair so far! Oldest DD had champ bantam cock & hen & reserve bantam hen with her cochins PLUS champ LF hen and reserve LF hen and reserve LF cock with her English Orps PLUS youngest DD had Champion bantam cockerel with her salmon faverolle from Jeanine!!! This is just our 4-H show at fair so they don't award the same as Open Class shows with Best of Breed, Best of Variety, champ for class. They just have Best of Show, Reserve of Show, champ & reserve BANTAM hen, cock, pullet, cockerel, and champ & reserve Large Fowl hen, cock, pullet, & cockerel. Other than those top awards it's just blue, red & white ribbons, so they have done VERY well!
Congrats to your girls!

I make a "brew" of
cut up fresh ginger and lemon
Boil in water the turn down to simmer
Take a cup of "brew" out add honey and drink
add more water to the pot and keep simmering

take a cup out when you can and add more water to keep simmering....
It smells good, adds humidity to the air inside and the brew calms, taste good, and is spicy so makes you sweat which I find helps me get over colds etc a lot faster then just taking meds. It also has vitamins and minerals from the ginger and lemon that seem to help get over colds/flus easier.

Ginger is commonly used to treat various types of “stomach problems,” including motion sickness, morning sickness, colic, upset stomach, gas, diarrhea, nausea caused by cancer treatment, nausea and vomiting after surgery, as well as loss of appetite. Other uses include pain relief from arthritis or muscle soreness, menstrual pain, upper respiratory tract infections, cough, and bronchitis. Ginger is also sometimes used for chest pain, low back pain, and stomach pain.

oh and for quick and dirty cold avoidance add some "airborne" (not to the ginger tea but just to your day)
drink one airborne in the morning and 1 at night to get the extra vitamin boost

Hi everyone :) Just wanted to say hello and share a couple pics of my little ones.. The first one is "Peepers" origanal huh ? LOL Actually got its name because when it see my daughter otr myself it runs around all crazy going PEEP VERY LOUDLY.. as soon as we pick it up its content and quiet.. Im looking forward to seeing how her personality plays out as she gets older. All 4 of the Wyandotte chicks are doing well so far in the brooder with the others. I do think I will be seperating them sooner than I first thought.. Just to make sure they are eating enough . They all 4 seem pretty happy and like to be handled so Im hoping for some mild mannered hens :)
We only lost 1 Cornish X chick on day 3.. the remaining 35 are 8 days old and seem to be doing well. there are a couple with funny "Bubbles or Bulges on them both above the wing area... to me it looks like small growth... But I know Cornish X do have issues because they grow so fast.. I just didnt expect to see anything quite this soon. I wil post in the Meat Bird section and ask about it. since this is our first batch of these Im learning.. They are alot of fun though...

i havent gotten to read all the past post from last 5 days but from what I read Im glad most are well, safe and doing OK.. I havent gotten to be online as much as I d like because of some "stuff" going on around here.. Been using my PC time to get extra sleep :)

I hope to get to reply to some post soon.... I like talking to fellow "Chicken people" you all seem "normal thinking" folk to me :) Heheeee...
