Anyone get frost yet? We had our first frost Friday Aug 24th.
Luckily I saw it on the weather report and was able to get my garden covered.
Yesterday we had our first picking.
1 patty pan squash, 5 baby beets and 6 cherry tomatoes. I don't know why I bother with a garden. LOL
Have ya considered applying WATER to yer garden???

Nice to see ya drop in PLEASE don't be a stranger !!!!

It is nice to see so many fellow chicken keepers in Washington! We live in bothell. We have one barnyard mix frizzle Banty hen(Cleopatra), one SQ Serama hen by the name of May(hopefully more seramas in the future), three parakeets, two green cheek conures, a Holland Lop bunny, five pedigreed Italian Greyhounds from show bloodlines, and a very tolerant mother and sister. Chickens make life interesting. I may be going to the Winter Classic in October.

OMG!!!!! Did I Miss something????????????

I just was in the store They had a 5 gallon bucket of BOSS that was damaged and were selling it for $8.00.. so I figured I could use it up. I go thru the cashier line and the lady asked me what kind of birds I was feeding? I smiled and said "its for my chickens". She flipped out!!!!!

She said "That is for BIRDS... not chickens.... Chickens eat chicken food" I was in a good mood this morning because I had just purchased all my feed for a month and did it with the money I have gotten from selling eggs so I was a pretty happy camper.

So I tried to explain to her that I feed the BOSS as a treat to my birds and its really good for them , protein, oil for feathers etc. She asked if I mixed it into their food ... I said No Its just a treat i toss to them. They get their food free style in a feeder. Again I smiled really big at her..

As I paid she says again.. and I quote "Chickens should get chicken feed.. Its people like you that are the reason we have the Bird Flu because your not following natures way!!"

I looked at my 15 year old daughter that was with me and she was laughing and said "Gheesh mom.. how could you!!" (sarcastically of course). I started chuckling and decided the time and place was not fitting for a debate with this lady.. So I smiled told her that maybe if she did a Google search about feeding BOSS to chickens it would ease her mind.. I wished her a wonderful afternoon and we left..

Just thought I d share with other chicken friendly peeps :)

I would have told her "My chickens didn't read that book. They think it natural to eat whatever they can get just like their wild ancestors!!!!"

Thank you so very much. Like I told Ron, I am just waiting for my DF to call me back when she gets off work tonight and then I can PM you and set up day and time for me to come get them from you!

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts on the situation, and I understand not everyone can give up or sell hens at a moments notice. This is such a GREAT group of people, I don't know what I would do with out everyone here. Special thanks to RonB and to KMHunter!
Well their NOT exactly MY Chickens

MUTT - no more doubts

The Free Dictionary:-
Word History: Clipping not of sheep but of a word having to do with sheep has given us our term mutt for a mongrel dog. Clipping or abbreviating words, a standard process of word formation, sheared mutt from muttonhead, a pejorative term meaning "a stupid person" based on the notion that sheep are stupid. Mutt in its first recorded use in 1901 is used in the same senses as muttonhead, but it is soon recorded (1904) as a term of contempt for a horse and then (1906) for a dog. We can be reasonably certain that the New Yorker critic writing in 1970 that "The cast includes a Sheepdog, . . . a Mutt *****," had no awareness that a sheepdog would make the ideal mutt.

Merriam Webster:-

Definition of MUTT

1
: a stupid or insignificant person : fool
2
: a mongrel dog : cur

It's just a WORD people - and as the late, lamented George Carlin used to say, "Words can't hurt you, only intentions".

I just love our one week of summer here in the PNW!

And she was digging it too! I tried getting pics of here trying to "Bite" the foam when he got it throttled up, but the boat was rocking so madly I felt sure I'd fall in.
