* Itsren.... WOW... I love the coop .... Awesome I so wish I could run the tools and build like that.. instead of having to ask Hubby all the time :)

Thank you. I'm getting more confident in building and using power tools on my own because of the chickens. I want to clarify - we modified and finished the coop. We built the run ourselves. The construction of the actual coop itself was done by a cabinet maker. We had to make some cuts to change doorways, move roosts, sand, paint and roof it, but the majority of the coop itself was built by someone else.

I am building a 2nd coop that will look nice, but I can assure you, the joinery on my 2nd coop will not be as intricate as the joinery on the first coop. We don't have the proper tools to make some cuts like the guy who built our first coop.

Question... do chickens lay eggs at night?

About 8:30 I went out and peeked in on the girls. Rhodie and Drama were on the roost. Caunnie (my EE) was in the nest box. She has never laid an egg, so I was wondering if she might be doing so tonight. So weird - usually she's pretty picky about where she sleeps on the roost. Will she get stuck in the nest box in the dark? Should I set her up on the roost?

Not very likely. I do have some that will some times sleep in the nest. I wouldn't worry much yet unless she shows signs of problems.

Agreed. Not likely she will lay tonight, but maybe she's close! My EE is 2 weeks?? Older than yours from the same place and she's been laying a little over a week :) get ready for the most awesome green eggs!

I have had a heck of a weekend!

Poor Cash found a rattlesnake...

The vet said he'll be okay...and thankfully, he's a BIG, tough dog. A smaller dog or a cat wouldn't have been as "lucky."

I'm so sorry! So terrible. I hope he comes through OK.

I use the window box type long skinny planter boxes for starwberries, to outsmart the horrendous herds of slugs we have here.
But next year I want to grow them vertically, will post a link.

CR originally posted this link as he visited the place....click the link where it says "strawberry growing system" it is AWESOME !!!!!!!!

SOOOO COOOOOL!!!! I saw something like that at the fair this year.

It is nice to see so many fellow chicken keepers in Washington! We live in bothell. We have one barnyard mix frizzle Banty hen(Cleopatra), one SQ Serama hen by the name of May(hopefully more seramas in the future), three parakeets, two green cheek conures, a Holland Lop bunny, five pedigreed Italian Greyhounds from show bloodlines, and a very tolerant mother and sister. Chickens make life interesting. I may be going to the Winter Classic in October.

Hope this doesn't bother anyone, figured y'all like pics so I'll share some of vacation time w the fam. We are staying at Arrow Point World Mark Resort on Lake Coeur d'Alene, ID. The weather is amazing over here compared to the wet side (which I will forever hate). We've been hiking, swimming, and exploring. The kids all got sick so we are trying to rest a lot too!
