I hope you are having a great time!

So my DH who didn't really want to build a wood run bought me a bunch of chain link kennel panels. I'll have a new run for my layers and one for the juveniles and broodies. We'll be putting one together tomorrow since I have one pipped egg under the brahma. Had to lock up one of my easter eggers who is trying to steal the nest of eggs again even though she isn't broody. She heard the chick, too, and wants them.

Question... do chickens lay eggs at night?

About 8:30 I went out and peeked in on the girls. Rhodie and Drama were on the roost. Caunnie (my EE) was in the nest box. She has never laid an egg, so I was wondering if she might be doing so tonight. So weird - usually she's pretty picky about where she sleeps on the roost. Will she get stuck in the nest box in the dark? Should I set her up on the roost?
Do you have light in the coop at night? On a very rare occasion I find an egg, early in the morning. And there have been many posts about hens laying from the roost
The biggest problem I have seen posted with the hens sleeping in the nests is that they will poop in them and then lay in them, causing dirty eggs.
Perhaps she is getting ready to lay; And yes without light she most likely will be spending he night in the nest. Moving her is your choice.

Nice to see ya drop in PLEASE don't be a stranger !!!!
OOh...water...... there's a thought! LOL

We had no Spring at all. Wet and raining and cold though the end of June. I am just hoping it stays nice enough to get some tomatoes. I cut off the new growth off the tops of the plants so hopefully they will get to work.
Such a change from So Cal where we had tomatoes in May.

I will try to stop in more. I always mean to but usually run out of time. :)
