I remember you talking about the LEGO FIRST robotics league. I think that would be a great arena for him to excel in. Lots of very intelligent and very quirky people there. I was a part time instructor and a current mentor at Aviation High School (which has a strong robotics program) and in a specialized setting like that where kids are allowed to discover their strengths and be smart, it's often impossible to tell the autistic apart from the merely very bright.

From what I've seen, autistic people are often brilliant. I've been told Microsoft is filled with very talented workers who are autistic. With their intelligence and with you as a mom, I have no doubt your sons will be amazing.

TOO FUNNY!!! I have a bad feeling that most of my Silkie chicks are boys, that means they will need to be rehomed

I was reading, elsewhere, that boy/girl ratio- this year is 70% boys.......... Is that a normal year?

Yikes, I hope not!

I have nine of the 11 Catdance Silkie youngsters I hatched here and it looks like I will keep only two or three of them. Let me hope they're in that remaining 30%!

Just figured I'd add myself. I'm Lori in Lynnwood, WA, soon to be moving (hopefully, darned house-buying process) up to Everett into an actual house where I can have a few backyard chickens. Hiya Washingtonians!

BTW, what is the closest hatchery to Washington? I don't want my peeps travelling too far since I'm looking for started pullets instead of chicks to begin with.

I have one remaining.
One killed her self last year trying to fly straight up from under the coop.  Broke her neck.  Early the spring the Splash died unexpectedly.  She had never laid an egg for me, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it.  The one I have remaining has 3 chicks about 6 wks old.  She went broody so I gave her 6 eggs. 
What did I learn from all this?  I don't like how flightly ameracuana (sorry for spelling that wrong) birds are.

My AM's are not flighty but they do not liked to be picked up and held. They do how ever come get treats from my hand as well as stand on my feet while I'm getting feed.

Okay, Lemon the Lemon Cuckoo Orpington Rooster is still looking for a home.....

Why are you getting rid of these beauties ???????????

To many roosters and I would rather give them to be breeding stock then cull to my full freezer.

I will give a heads up that the lemon could have a attitude.... so whom ever wants to used him for breeding will need to make sure to stay as head rooster or he could become mean.
I can handle him fine and he sits on my feet for feed etc just like all the others but he pecks when I try to move him at night. and for me this is a sign that he could start a attitude if allowed. if he was not such a nice barred lemon cuckoo orp I would just cull him. But his colors are very good and the barring is almost barred rather then cuckoo.... so he would be a good project breeder.

Do any of you Washingtonians have silkie eggs  (fertile)?  I have a partridge silkie wanting to sit...

List what you are looking for in birds and I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction.
Best info would be breed/age wanted.

BTW for those whom have been waiting...... Poseidon and Blu Mama's broody hatched chicks are now ready for homes if anyone was waiting for some LF Ameraucana chicks.
I also have a older chick from eggs I hatched that looks to be a nice darker Blue male that is for sale as well.

I have 3 blues But I need to allow them to grow a little before I can decide which to keep. I'm still working on some better blue lacing in the LF.

Pretty close to accurate here! I hatched 6 babies and 4 turned out to be boys. I traded one blue boy for 2 whites who both turned out to be boys.

Let's just hope that my 2 newest silkie babies, the porcelain and buff, are girls! I'm over run with cockerels here!

WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN

I had noticed the young man bagging groceries before. He took his job seriously and worked at it diligently. It's not easy for a person with Down's syndrome to find a job and he appreciated the opportunity to do something useful and earn his own money.

That particular day he bagged my groceries and placed them carefully in the cart for me. I thanked him and moved to push the cart out the door. After all, I'm a man! I can carry my own groceries. But he would have nothing of that. He informed me that that was his job.

I said, "OK," and he followed me out to my car. I opened the trunk and he put the bags in. I smiled and said, "Thank you."

Suddenly, he put his arms around me and said, "I like you!" I said the only thing I could say; "I like you, too."

Over the years I have read hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects: I have heard countless sermons and preached hundreds myself; I have witnessed several remarkable, even historic events. But you know, I don't remember any of those things as clearly as I recall that simple expression of innocent love.

Now, some will say that when I see that young man in Heaven, he will have been made whole. In other words, they think he will be like the rest of us. But I wonder.

I wonder if, when by God's grace I am made whole, I won't be more like that young man than he like me. You see, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control [Galatians 6:22-23]. My friend the bag boy was blessed with all those qualities and none of the pride or meanness that so often afflicts me.

When we get to heaven, few of the abilities we value so highly here will matter very much. And honestly now, would you like to spend eternity debating the finer points of physics or theology or fine art with some world renowned authority, or would you rather spend it singing in the choir seated next to a kid who is not embarrassed to give you a hug and tell you that he likes you?
