That's a good idea! What about scratch? Why not just use scratch instead of bird seed? Just wonderin', newbie and all

Scratch is typically high carb food (corn) - where as bird seed will be more of a mixture.

I found my young ones sitting in the Japanese maple today. They were so sweet all lined up. I noticed that one of my Australorps has virtually-non-existent wattles and a very small comb. Everyone else has normal wattles and combs for their age. Their faces are pink/red, but hers is exceedingly pale. She is a teeny bit smaller than they are, but she eats like they do and is even at the top of their pecking order! As a chick, she seemed to be weeks behind them physically. I'm wondering if she's just a very late bloomer or a runt of sorts (I know that discussion happened, but you know what I mean). I almost expect that she'll start laying way after the rest of her crew too! Has anyone ever had a chicken that just lags way behind everyone else physically? If so, how did it turn out?
