They are not riding bikes anymore and they survived. Without too much damage, mostly.

Yeah...is it technically BAD that John has had a pocket knife since he turned 4?

My dad gave it to him. He's only cut himself once.

My ex-BF stashed away these four large and two small pallets for us today from the shipping/receiving department where he works.

My BF was able to carry and fit all of them into his station wagon

, and we are going to pick up four more large and one more small tomorrow, supposedly in even better condition than the ones we got today! Then we'll design it on the camping trip next week (weather and finances permitting

), and get to work ASAP!

Does anyone have any words of wisdom for first-time coop DIYers?!?

What ever size you decide on.........build it bigger.

Sorry I don't. My Uncle who owns Webster Road Feed Store out in Graham had a bunch. They are from a hatchery. My Lacey the SLW is from the same hatchery & she's very nice quality. I don't know the quality of these Brahma's but they look nice. They almost always have chicks, you'll have to check to see when they might be getting more of the breed you are looking for. My 2yr chickens are from him, that hatchery but my RIR wasn't. It was from another farm & I wasn't happy with that group of chicks, poor quality. So this yr I went back to my Uncle to get more chicks. I am happy with these new chicks.

Your Uncle who owns Webster Road Feed???? Brian???? I love him...(purely friendly of course LOL) My family has gone to Webster Road Feed for many years. I buy most of my supplies and chicks from him they have always been healthy and nice. He is always trying to send home a kitten or duck or some other critter with me or my daughter.. Its always a blast to go in and have a chat with him when he has time.. He is always quite patient with my questions too... He is an awesome character... Too cool!!!! Small World.

I think we can get as many as we want from my ex as long as we're willing to wait a few days or a week, which we are. I am, however, very interested in these "extra long" pallets! We were thinking we'd have to buy 2X4s for framing as none of the pallets we have are more than 4' across, and I've been going crazy trying to figure out how to pay for it (seriously, I'm living off of Bisquick and peanut butter until there's cash for groceries). How long are they? If my BF thinks he can use what you've got, we'd be happy to meet your husband wherever he works. I can even borrow my other ex-boyfriend's pickup truck if necessary. (I've always found that maintaining good relations with exes has all kinds of benefits

27 chickens of mine or belonging to my 4Hers are at the Puyallup Fair and I am pooped! There are a ton of seramas there. Anyone who wants to see a real serama tabletop show should go Friday night. Judging of caged birds is Saturday then we pick them all up Sunday and do it all again for the Youth Show in 2 weeks. September is a busy time for us.

Jessica (FireWifeJess),

Do any of these critters look familiar to you? My husband said if the animal that is burrowing is using a tunnel to get into your run, putting a hardware cloth apron up probably won't keep it out because it will continue to burrow beneath the hardware cloth.

I will try and wander out to his stash pile and see whats left and get a measurement for you on Thursday :) When I asked hubby tonite he said "Why didnt you ask me about this 2 weeks ago when we were in that part of the job??" Gheesh men and timing LOL..... He said that after you guys know what you may need or want to let us know and if we have some extra to spare He will be happy to meet you guys one day after work.

See hubby works for a construction company... they do large build sites and bottom line there is a lot of waste. So my sweet other half is always bringing home stuff and sometimes Lots of it. He has brought home, Windows, Lumber of all kinds and sizes, Lighting, insulation, dented or scratched dishwashers, molding, boxes of nails, paint and other stuff. It drives him nuts to see stuff go into the dumpster because of a small defect or because it was the wrong size, color etc and couldn't be sent back..It drives me nuts to have it piling up around our place :) So Im always happy to see people that need it get the extras that we cant use. A few years ago he brought home 300 heavy fire doors.... They were interior doors from a hotel that upgraded for code reasons, I think... Anyways I was like. WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO WITH 300 INTERIOR DOORS ???? Are you nuts?? He just smiled and said "Babe they were free".. We stacked them out behind the barn and covered them and gave a few away. We joked about building coops and a garage with them. Then last year a neighbor of ours was telling us about another elderly neighbor that has large barns and the barn floors had rotted out.. he didnt have the funds to replace them Sooooo Geuss what the guys game up with.... Yep the hay barns now have new "DOOR" floors :)

So anyways after you get your plan made of what you want... Just PM me or something and we can see what we have that you need :)

YEP! What he said!!!!

We built a pallet coop, actually it's a long duplex coop, so two sides to it. We used the pallets assembled, you will find that taking them apart is a LOT of work.
I used to have a page here showing photo's of us building it, but I don't think it came over correctly when they upgraded the site. If you can view my uploaded photo's here, it's in there somewhere!

WA4-Hpoultrytmom,

I think this is your coop building page. It's in your profile as an article.
