Does the name Joyce Danner (in the Renton/Issaquah area) ring a bell with anyone here? I put Dartha on CL and this woman has offered to trade me a RIR for her; I think the one she will trade is laying and under a year old as I've seen her name around CL before. I just don't want to go meet up only to realize I shouldn't be trading with someone like that, you never know how people keep their chickens YK? Also, for all her laying birds she's only selling them for $10 each and that's too good to be true. I listed my mean bird for $20! LOL So what's the scoop w/ this lady?

Did you google her name and email?
I always do that.
You could always ask to come see her place too, which would be a good idea if you are going to bring a bird from her place to yours.

Had a really good road trip to Yacoult WA today with SadieSue. Went to see Karen Larsen of Catdance silkies. Got a lot of info about raising and breeding silkies.
Long Drive, 3.5 hours, but so worth it!
CR, if we had had time I would have tried to come see you too!

I read some where that a lot of "seriouse" chicken keepers wont let other people that have chickens walk around the area where then chickens are kept because you can bring sickness in from your shoes. So if you end up not buying from her cause any one looks or acts sick I would wash your shoes before you walk around your chicken area. JMO and that is what I always do, even if the chickens don't look sick because their chickens can be amune to the strain in thier area while my chickens may not be amune and could get sick. It could just be a bunch of BS but with Cocci (sp?) I know it is on the ground and every where and your chickens do become amune to it and then bring in a new hen and she will get sick.

Agreed. The only one I let walk around my yard is Renee. I will bring my muck boots for tomorrow and give them a good wash before going in my own yard with them when I get back. Thanks for the heads up!

I have a cheap pair of slip on rubber clog-ish things I bought from the garden section in target.. $10.... they are easy to use and easy to put in a bucket of bleach water to clean.....
I use them in my yard and bleach em when they get dirty, I'm going to visit someone with chickens, after visiting someones chickens and when ever someone else wants to visit my yard they can use em.... with no heel they are good for others to use even if they are not the right size....

Tracking in an illness/virus or other bad thing to your chickens.
When I hauled seed potatoes you could not walk into the loading area to watch them load your trailer. 1st you had to put on their boots (over your shoes) and even then you had to go through a foot bath.
So I think that you or someone could track an illness into your flock is very, very real.

I would HIGHLY recommend a good quarantine on any new birds ESPECIALLY IF from a totally unknown.
