If y'all were to get birds from someone here who is quite reputable and a long timer, would you still quarantine?

Yes, due to stress, healthy birds can sometimes catch something they did not have before.

Main reasons for quarantine is:
Give the new stressed bird time to acclimate to you as well as it's new surroundings without being thrown into the pecking order adjustments.
Give time to see if the bird develops something from the stress of the move
and gives time to see if any health problems are prevlent that you did not see when you picked them up.....

Lice/mites are easy to see and therefore not really the issues.... the hidden possibilities, sometimes only develop when under stress so those are the ones you want to watch for.
Even birds from the best kept flocks can get sick from stress and minor exposure to something.

Alright, fine, you've convinced me once again! I will find a way to quarantine the 2 birds I'm getting from HoneySuckleHill this weekend

My birds won't be happy that the only place they love to lay eggs in (though there are myriad other options available to them) will need to be taken away for a few weeks to house the new girls. They'll get over it hopefully

I would love to host something sometime for anyone in WA who wants to come! Perhaps early summer next year though, that way my coop would be finished, yard would be green and enjoyable, and it won't be too hot to BBQ on the Trager all day too! Right now our whole yard is ugly and dead though, and the coop area is disastrous. Embarrassing.

But we'd be there to see YOU and your family and chickens (and maybe the Trager, ha!), not your yard.

I really am not a fan of taking pain meds. When I had surgery on this shoulder (years ago) I only took one pain pill Each of the first 2 nights just to try to help me sleep. but I recently hit a point I was ready for meds.
I know what you mean, I don't take anything unless I'm really bad off, and it sounds like you are/were there!

OK - Northend meetup! Third Place Books

I'd like to propose this Wednesday the 12th at 6:30 p.m. at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park.

These are the folks that have RSVP'd so far, hope most of you can make the date/time I'm proposing!

  • Honeysuckle hills
  • Hallerlake
  • Terrorbird
  • JennS
  • Farmin' mama

Anyone is welcome!

I saw someone request school hours - I am not able to do this - but you're more than welcome to schedule something, too!

We can get a table close to the big chess set/kid area. If you haven't been before, they have a food court with lots of types of food you can purchase, pizza, mexican, bbq, japanese, bakery, etc.

yay, fun!

I should be able to make it. I will have my 2 year old, and I might even have the husband. We've been meaning to check the bookstore out for a while.

I do make the beads myself. I melt and shape the glass with a propane/oxygen torch and put them right into a kiln to anneal them. Annealing cools the glass very slowly so it does not stress and crack.
Shyla, do you sell these? I would love to get some.
