Thanks! I checked it a little while ago and it was 99.3. It seems pretty stable, especially when the temp in the attached room doesn't dive 10-15 degrees. Grrr.

How about humidity fluctuations, are they the same? I plan on topping it off a little every couple of days.

I picked up my first eggs today. Woot!! I've got 4 lavender Orpingtons, and she threw in a black copper Marans. I can't wait to get the rest and put them all in!

Jennifer

Who did you get your lavender eggs from I am going to get me some.

Imagine this in your mind:
You have 10 or so old lipsticks, various colors.
You document which color you put on which hen...then you waite
The next day you get the eggs and know which hen is laying which egg by the color of lipstick is on the egg !

I keep 'seeing' hens running around with big Rolling Stones type lips on their rear ends...............

now I know what to do with my old lipsticks......just kidding, too too funny! Great idea. If anyone uses this idea, please report back!

Woohoo!!! My original 9 girls are laying finally!!!! Got 8 eggs today (Only missing an egg from one of my EEs and I KNOW she's laying) and I'm still ecstatic

Celebrate with me!!

This means that when I pick up the 2 new girls next week I have the potential for 11 eggs a day! I doubt it'll be that good, but I still could easily expect 8+ eggs every day. Awesomesauce!! Then my 2 "baby" 13.5 week old EEs might start laying at the end of October or sometime in November

Just got the new nipple waterer and bucket feeder hung in the babies coop. I finally got tired of picking up the old jar feeders and waterers off the floor and seeing all the wasted food

So I called them into the coop to show them how to use the waterer. Half of them left when they realized I wasn't giving them meal worms! After showing the ones that stayed what to do, I sat and watched them for a couple minutes. It was hilarious! They would peck at the nipple and then try to catch the water drop before it hit the ground

They were also trying to scratch around the shavings for the water. By the time I left they had gotten the hang of it, but man I was laughing!

Well, it appears we may have an upset in the pecking order here. Our Welsummer, Salma, has traditionally been the benevolent leader of our five hens, but I noticed a few times lately that our blue mutt, Gertude, who is cranky because she's molting, has been pecking at Salma. Then just now I saw Gertrude grab Salma by the back of the neck with her beak, stand on her back with both feet, and hump her! Just like a rooster! How crazy is that?!?

Just thought I would share some of my work. When I put a few pairs together a few months ago, I didnt realize how popular feather earrings are!

I love these!! I have 3 pairs I got from our kids elementary school holiday bazaar. If I ever meet you, I would definitely be interested!!

If y'all were to get birds from someone here who is quite reputable and a long timer, would you still quarantine?

ETA: Because I was kinda thinking no...just bring them home at night and stick them on the roost with everyone else, and get up early to curb any fights. WDYT?

I am a newbie chicken person so I could be totally wrong but, I got 2 new girls from CR on Friday and threw them right in that night with our other birds. All is well at this point. I know it was a risk but it came down to the fact that I just didn't have a quarantine area. I plan on setting one up at some point but until then.....

I am down to just a pair of Seramas now. I need to find another pullet or two so that my boy "Marco" doesn't worry poor little Veronica to distraction. He is one active little boy. (This is my first time with any "teenage" rooster that I intend to keep.) Has anyone ever seen the film "Dangerous Beauty"? My DD named them after the characters in that movie since it's one of her faves.

I certainly did enjoy seeing all the beautiful birds at the Puyallup Fair on Friday. DH and I were in awe of the nearly 100 Seramas there for Table Top judging and stayed to observe for awhile. A couple of our WA BYC'ers took some prizes for their pretty little birds!
Made me want more - but space is limited and I can only take so much crowing IN my house. Marco and Veronica live inside most of the time since he has a sharp piercing crow that can be heard all over the neighborhood. He's actually louder than the English Orp boy or the Silkie boys!

So I don't know if Veronica was threatened since she may have heard I was coveting other people's pretty pullets at the fair or what - but starting Saturday morning she started leaving me little eggs. Two days in a row now from my pretty 4 month old Serama girl.

I've heard it takes at least 3 of these to equal one "regular" sized egg. I asked DH if he'd like a 12 egg omelette sometime!

Here is Veronica's first egg compared to a Salmon Faverolles egg -

And here is my pretty little Veronica - I am just in love with this affectionate tiny girl. She often sits on my shoulder when I'm playing on the computer.

Oh wow! She's gorgeous!! Wow!

Southenders..... Has a meet up spot been decided yet? I know there's been some talk amoungest CR and a few others.

We might be able to host but we are about 20mins south of CR, we live in Castle Rock. If anyone would be interested, let me know and I'll run it by DH so that I can work with his work schedule.

Also, anyone interested in a 4 year old, tripawed,

jack russell/chi mix? He needs a home with no kids and either no dogs or calmer, dog friendly dogs.

PM me if interested and I'll give you lots more info on him.

I'm highly allergic to all molds. My allergist did confirm that. I didn't add that to my list, because, well, my list of allergies is just too long. I'm not supposed to eat anything manufactured with molds - including cheese. But, cheese is currently my main source of protein in the morning since I can't eat eggs - so removing that is not happening like it should. The list my allergist gave me on what I "could" eat was so ridiculously small - it is just not feasible to live that way.
I meant your daughter.
